I remember living on the military base, Lawton Okla. 1967. I remember the times the big black car pulled up and 2 men always got out and walked up to someone's trailer. It was never good news. On a brighter note the ice cream truck came thru 2 times a week, he was such a friendly guy and loved us military kids. We also had a park, just for us...Dodo Park. The peacocks were friendly and would fan their magnificent feathers out for us. We shopped at Piggly Wiggly where the carry out guy would tell us in his southern accent, Y'all come back now! I also met Ronald McDonald and got a balloon from him as they had just opened one up in that town. I experienced all of this becuz of all of you, the veterans, who fought to keep us free~
eagle..I can still shoot a mean .357!!!
Thanks.....its a very special day for me - I am a Vietnam era Vet. My brother was shot in the Mekong Delta on Memorial Day of 1966 - - - A very close friend lost his life on his first active mission in a B-52 over North Vietnam....on a different Memorial Day. My father served in all four arenas of WW2. It should be more than just a day to get drunk!! Its a day to enjoy, honor, and remember ...................and be thankful for.
thank you for this post! made me tear up....so proud of our military men and women!! past, present and future!!
Eagle, thank you so much for shining the spotlight where it truly belongs. We owe our freedom to these many brave and unselfish heroes . Wishing everyone a safe and joyous Memorial day.
What a great post! Thank you for this; I know that I get caught up in my own life and drama and often take for granted how lucky I am to have these freedoms that so many have fought and died for - and are still doing so right this minute all over the world. Thanks again for this reminder - and Happy Memorial Weekend to everyone!
And LOVE the 500; spent many weekends of my life during the Month of May at IMS :)
