Day 8

So I took some melatonin last night to see if it would help me sleep, and I found myself in and out of sleep all night, tossing and turning.  I woke up feeling both agitated and mad.  I feel a little better now, not so much a snappy, cynical ****, just aggravated at the lack of sleep.

Once I got the Restless Leg under some kind of control, sleep has come in spurts.  I usually get 3-4 hours, up for 1-2 and then down for 3!  I am at day 34 and it has been a struggle.  But sleep has definitely returned to my house!

For what it's worth, I still take an OTC sleeping pill pretty regularly. I didn't last night and got a full night, but I don't think I would have gotten this far without them. Melatonin and VRoot just didn't work for me.

Epsom salt baths are relaxing and be careful about any caffeine even after 4pm

Keep fighting. You're doing great!

That bitchy, synical snappy, anger  thing is also related to serotonin levels. Fluctuating serotonin levels cause all sorts of "mood" symptoms. It controls how you react to mood stimuli. For example, you see a sad scene in a movie you are watching, but instead of making you feel sad, you get angry. That's because there isn't enough serotonin to supply the receiving receptors on what are called post-synaptic neurotransmitters. this results in the wrong signal being transmitted down the neuropathways, triggering a different response than is normal.

For the depression, try 5htp. It helps boost your serotonin levels.

A lot of people have trouble with that melatonin.  Bad dreams etc.

You are better off to stick with taking your Calcium and magnesium before bed, along with the theamine amino acid supplement, or alternatively, brew some strong green or black tea and have a few cups of that. The tea is a natural source of theamine, about 22mg per cup. Gnarly1 also suggests a tea that helps with sleep.

Valerian root I would avoid at night , as it contains tyrosine, which you'd normally take in the morning for energy. Not something you'd want when you are trying to sleep.

Not that I'm knocking Valarian root, it has it's place, but it's one of those "cure all" things, which you should be aware of what it contains.

Taking it with amino acid supplements can cause problems. And that goes for anything else as well.

The amino acid supplements are better, because each one targets a specific neurotransmitter deficiency, which makes it easier to taylor which ones, and the dosage to fit your specific needs.
Taking Valarian root and tyrosine in the morning for example, could cause you to accidentally take too much tyrosine, which could raise your anxiety levels instead of energy levels.

I've had really mixed experiences with melatonin Hydroco_done,

Sometimes it works great, sometimes it works TOO well (ugggly mornings) and most often I've experienced the in and out of sleep zombie like state you have.

I've found Benadryl knocks me out, even during the withdrawals.

Good, make it as hot as you can take it. You should really try sleepy time tea. Also deep breathing else. Keeps the mind focused.
I was lucky in that I have had no sleep issues. I am taking melatonin. It's the depression that grabs me off and on.

My shower is one of those half showers so I can take baths in them, but I find a hot shower really helps.
