Currently Detoxing

I've been taking 80 mg of Oxycontin a day plus 8-10 Norco a day for my Interstitial Cystitis. I am only prescribed 40 mg of Oxy/day and only 4 Norco a day. Its evident I am building up way too much of a tolerence & addiction. I am currently detoxing. I quit the oxy cold turkey after taking my last pill 2 days ago. I am weening myself off the Norco by taking 1 less pill each day. I feel like hell. I was reading posts about people quitting cold turkey...I can only imagine those withdrawals symptoms. After these last few pills I have, I don't have any more refills so I feel strong enough to quit in this manner. I also don't know any drug dealers so I won't be tempted to buy off the street. But, I found this forum when searching for "natural ways to help with detoxing." No one knows about my current addiction...not even my fiance whom I live with. He thinks I was taking the meds as prescribed. I've been in bed for about 48 hours now with cold sweats and a messed up stomach. Any advice to get me thru this is greatly appreciated!

The melatonin and valerian root are better than any sleep med OTC or other...Because they are natural.  I saw a detox doctor who told me melatonin must be taken when the sun goes down in order to effectively regulate your sleep/wake schedule...So don't wait until right before bed.

You're doing great doll-keep it going...Lu

Melatonin is what I was suggesting. I've been using it, take it on a fairly empty stomach about 45 min before I go to bed (per the pharmacist). It isn't perfect, but it helps. And absolutely talk to your doc before trying anything new. I emailed mine about the amino acid protocol and he told me all but one of the products I wanted to use was fine.

My dr told me I shouldn't take sleep aids with the clonidine. I've been taking meletonin & velerian root but hasn't worked for me. It does calm me down tho, so that's  good at least.

Lulu is right about the sleep thing. But, and I'm in the middle of it, you do learn to adapt fairly quickly. For me, I sleep, wake up, sleep, wake up, etc., throughout the night. On good nights I'll average maybe 7 hours, but it is broken. Having said that, I learned to cope, and actually feel more alert because I don't have the crap in my system. Like Lulu said, don't think about it; take a mild OTC sleep aid and just enjoy the hours that you get. You are really ahead of the curve right now. Great job.

I am so proud of you...You are doing great(:

Umm...The sleep might take awhile...You gotta be patient.  Try not to focus on it as it makes things worst.  Trust me.  Your body will give in and sleep when it needs to.  I am so happy you have the love and support of your family around you-mine were a godsend.  Keep going girl...You are doing awesome...Lu

Everyone says day 3 is the worst, but i'd say days 1 and 2 were way worse than today. I just ate a kolache & had a glass of chocolate milk. I then walked with my mom to the mailbox & back (my parents have a long drive way out in the country.) I'm gonna try to keep eating today so I can continue getting strength back. All I want now is sleep! When does the sleep come back? Haha seriously tho...when will I finally sleep?
