Hi All-I am new to this site so bear with me but am looking for some help.  So heres my story I basically started using opiate pain killers for my endometerosis and chronic back pain about 1-2 years ago.  I am now up to about 6-8 10 mg percocet or anything of that nature I can get my hands on.  I have never had any problem like this before I keep wanting to quite but get like a day into w/d and cant take it no more.  From reading everyones post I see alot have been here at this place before.  I have 2 kids, a great job and am only 24.  I am sick of this running my life!!!!  I will go half way across the world for it and spend my last dime.  All I know that it is time to stop but just dont have the power.  I am in so much pain some days I cant get out of bed and function so it comes to a quality of life thing for me.  I know I am abusing them I take way more then the recommended dose by my docter and just feel like this is running my life.  This is the first time in my life that I have felt this helpless i just dont know what to do or who to turn to.  I do not want to tell my family or work because I am ashamed but I have to find an end.  Reading everyones post has empowered me I want sobriety in my life but it just seems so far out of reach.  I was wondering if anyone could share some personal experiences of what helped them get off of opiate pain killers and what helped with the w/d.  I know everyone is different and I need to find what works for me but I just need to reach out to someone I have no one I really feel comfortable sharing this side of me.  I have hide it from the world I continuelly tell my self I am in control but I am starting to relize I am not and just kidding my self.  I can think of a million reasons to stop but just have not gotten the streghten to get past that first day I always cave in.  So I guess this is my little plea for help.  So if you feel you have something to add that could help or some remedies that worked for you from w/d it would be great!!!  Thanks for reading.
Dani

You sound almost identical to my story, you may want to go and read what I posted, and we could go through this together.  I too am a mom to two small kids, 4 1/2 and 1 1/2 and I want out of this viscious cycle.  I went c/t two weeks ago and lasted for 1 week completely clean - w/d sucked but with the advice of alot here I was able to minimize some of the effects.  Then on 7th day, cleaned house like a mad woman b/c I felt pretty good and messed my back all up and ended up taking 2-4 lortabs ever since (been 1 1/2 weeks).  Now I am afraid of w/d again and don't really know what to do.  Maybe we can strart from day 1 together?  I feel so strong that with the support that we have here we CAN DO THIS!! Let me know if I can help in any way.

You sound like you are ready to quit. 60-80mg a day is very doable cold turkey.
The key is to cut off all your source of pills. Then you will make it through the C/T.
Confide in your doctor. Tell him you don't like the way you feel and would like to stop taking the pain meds. He/she has heard this 100 times before. He will help you. Cut off your friends and anyone else with pills. Everything you need for your C/T is in this forum.
You will be sick like the flu for a week or less. You can do it if you really want to.
Good Luck.....

try this take 800mg ibuprofin than 3 hours later take Tylanal it is safe to do that becouse defferant body organs process the meds tyl goes through the liver and ibuprofin through the kedneies. insted of motrin take naprosin you can get it in 500mg tabs 3 times daily ( but that is perscription strength so you'll have to go see your dr for it also you can swagger the doses of tyl and naprosin. Have you tried Cox 2's or lidacane patches for back pain. What types of therapy have you done for your back pain cause there are TENS units or somthing called Iontophorisis that can indroduce a staroidal antiimfamitory medication useing some thing like a tens unit, theraputic Ultrasound/phonophorisis same as ionto but useing Ultrasound. then there are the core muscle strengthing exercises that help stabalize the spine which helps with pain by releaving preasure off of the erector spineous muscle (long muscle that runs up and down the spine). have you had injections for the back pain. all of these things I have seen work to get rid of chornic pain. if you would like a copy of core muscle exercises there in my photo's in my profile

keep posting it does help when your in the W/D

For me my motivations came from a few things......first and foremost I wanted to quit so i could be  a better mom to my kids (two boys, age 5 and almost 3). I was missing out on alot of important moments with them while i was dazed and numbed up from my daily vicodin overdosing. I was consumed with trying to find more pills all the time, it was all i thought of most of the time. I got tired of playing the game, tired of never having enough pills to last me and going through WD several times until i could get a refill or find some from a friend or relative. I got SO TIRED of being a slave to all of this. It took a few times of me trying to quit before I finally managed to stick with it. I relapsed a few times but now am over 80 days clean. if I can quit pills anyone can. I was bad off. and btw i too also have chronic pain- bad discs in my back, arthritis of the neck and entire spine, knees and hips to name a few (im 37) and supposedly i have fibromyalgia but Im not so sure of that anymore. I think i got diagnosed with that when i was actually having WD symptoms but I cant be sure. I do still have muscle aches all over most days but who the hell knows...i think i just inherited alot of bad genes from my dad as he had alot of things wrong with him at a young age too.
Wishing you the best of luck in succeeding this time. Keep reading and posting here for support and advice. this place is great!

If you don't get the answers on pain. Try making a new post just about that. Sometimes that spurs more interest.

Thanks for all your support...So basically I have reading been reading all of your post and thanks for the support...I so need it at this time in my life.  Jacqui to answer your question it is a little bit of both I have trouble managing my pain and to get high.  I am very confused and feel lost not really sure where to turn but just as someone send early I am sick of the chase and hoping some new friends here could give me the much needed to support to over come this demon in my life.  If anyone has any suggestions other the ibuprofin (does not work and I end up taking 800mg every 3-4 hrs with very little relief) and narcotic pain meds that help relieve their chronic pain it would be most helpful.  thanks again to all it is most appreciated and just want I need right now.

I'm sorry for your struggles.  I wanted to say first, that alot of folks here are in some form of chronic pain, so you'll probably get lots of help.  Also, though, that I wanted to ask you......are you taking more pills because it's not working for you so much anymore, or to get "high"?  I'm not suggesting you should stay on the pills, just wanted to know, because if your pain is not being controlled, you're gonna need to get control over that to some degree.  Perhaps mentioning to your doc(s) that you don't want to take the pills anymore, but you're having increased pain and would like to discuss other treatments/therapies would be in order?  That alone, may help you to get off the pills in the best way for you.  I know you said that you cannot do this, but I'd respectfully have to disagree.  It's just a matter of when it'll be the most forefront thing in your mind.  I know you want it, but it'll have to be priority.  It's tough, but you can do it.  You sound so ashamed, hiding from people and not being able to share with anyone over this.  Please try not to see things that way.  You didn't pick this for yourself anymore than you picked endometriosis or back pain.  What's important is that you're recognizing the hold these things have over you, and that you want off 'em.  You've got my support Dani.

first welcome to the forum.  you will find lots of support here.

sweetie, at best w/ds are hard.  you can quit c/t or taper or go suboxone.  all come with their hard times.  we abused our bodies with these pills and to regain our lives we have to suffer.  there are a few things that help with the w/d pain/\,\.  the thomas receipe is in the health pages.  great vitamins and aminos to minimize the symptoms.  for the pains and rls use hot baths with epsom salt and lots of bananas.  heatin pad or electric blanket for the chills.  it takes about a week of real bad flu like sypmtoms and then you are on the road to recovery.  good luck, you can do this.  but it is not easy.
many prayers
cathy

When your desire to be clean and your life not run by drugs, when it is greater than wanting the drugs. You are then ready to quit. It is not a maybe. It is not how bad withdrawals are. It is when no matter what happens I am getting off of these.
