Day 5 Getting Frusterated! withdrawals

I am on day 5 of quitting pain pills, and at this point i am getting frusterated!. i am still having restless leg sydrome, depression, anxiety, and i try to fight myself to sleep, but lay there until late morning hours, 10am. Things have gotten better since day 3. but i am starting to get the feeling i can't do this anymore. im starting to question myself. Did i do the right thing by quitting cold turkey? I was up to 10-12 percs/vics a day, whatever i can get my hands on. How much longer is this going to go on?? about to lose my sanity.. looking for the strength to keep going..Thanks for listening..

Hon, I'm at the end of day 5 coming off oxys...trust ME, you can do this. We have the same days clean...we can do it together. Tomorrow night, we will celebrate day 6....just think how exciting everyday will be for us.

BTW, have been a user for 3 years and have only gotten clean 8 days in all those years. So this is big for me as well. Most times I only make it until day 4...so I feel what you're saying about the frustration.

You are doing the right thing!  I am so proud of you!  I too suffered with the restless legs and tried everything.  Everyone is different and really try the suggestions above.  I finally found relief with a product at walgreens called restful legs. It was with the vitamins.  I also found that Tom's recipe on this site and someone suggested benedryl for sleep which worked.  Let us know how you are doing.  When I couldn't sleep I spent time talking on here with others.  Keep up the good work, you are almost there!!

5 days, you are doing it!  Keep up your courage, it's very motivating to a lot of folks on this site and gives me hope.  I am on a taper worked out with my Dr. and so far it is working for me. Down to 1 1/2 7.5 a day now. I know you are questioning going ct, but I am doing a slow and inevitable greater withdrawal to come.  I have less RLS and sleepless nights but it's dragging.  Have a quit date written in stone (great advise from worried) I will pray for you for you and hope soon you will have peaceful sleeping !  You can and you are doing it!  Keep posting, I'll be as well. It really helps.  Some great advise and hope from these folks.

Congratulations on 5 days!!!! At the beginning I bet you thought you couldn't make it that long. Like the above posts said the worst is over. Think in terms of 10 days. With the first 3-4 the worst. By 10 you will feel much better. The restless legs and crawling muscles were the worst for me.And unfortunately that went on for me longer. I found stretching to be somewhat helpful. But also getting out of bed and eat something...peanut butter is good. Some protein. I couldn't hold still enough to read so I would clean house; do exercises; feel terrible but it passes. All this is time limited.

When I talk to myself about using, like this is horrible and I could feel better if I had something; I like to think it is the addiction talking. We are continually finding reasons to use again, that is part of the disease. So it helps to stand back and act like a censor for a while and monitor the pro-using thoughts. I have found myself over the years doing very strange things that at the time I didn't realize were excuses for using. Like deciding to have elective surgery for the drugs etc.

. You are doing Great!!!! Think "one day more" I will just do this one more day" or one hour more etc. Read the posts on this site. I found that the most helpful thing to do when I was losing it. Good Luck and keep going.

Hello there.

First of all, congrats on making it to day five.  The most difficult days are now behind you. Do not question whether or not you made the right choice about going cold turkey, because it no longer matters.  Just think, if you gave in and returned to the habit, then you have the wonderful past five days to look forward to all over again!  Really not worth it.  I went cold turkey and was at a much higher amount of pills at the time.  As bad as it can feel at certain times, I look back now and realize that it was not too terrible.  Keep your head in the game and just get to day six.  I promise that you will be feeling much better very soon.

Your mind is just all twisted up right now, hence your name.  You are at the equivalent of a Wednesday afternoon during a terrible week at work.  Let's just call this your "hump day."  It truely is all downhill from here.  The weekend is upon you!

Very soon  you will start to see some of the wonderous rewuards that come from getting clean.  You will start feeling alive again.  You may not feel great, but there will be moments of clarity that will reinforce your reasons for wanting to get clean in the first place.  It is like waking up from a bad dream and finding out that your life really is pretty good and totally worth the work it takes to reclaim it.

Don't beat yourself up.  This will pass.  Take a long hot bath and get right into bed afterwards.  You should fall right asleep,

Keep on Keeping On!

Matt

You are getting to the point now where it is time to try and get up and moving.  I agree with the other responces, exercise would be a great remedy for many of the issues you are currently being plagued with.  Even a brisk walk will get you headed in the right direction.

Hey,
5 days clean is really great! So don't forget that is an accomplishment right there. In the first week or two the symptoms will try and hold on to you, but each day it should get a little better. Think how long you were feeding your body those drugs...now your body is trying to get a handle on things. It was in shock when it realized it can no longer rely on the drugs and now it just takes some time to get back to normal. Within a few days you should probably be feeling bettter, but just think, after this week or so, you'll have the rest of your life to be feeling better. I sympathize for you because it can be so hard to go on living your life while fighting a detox, especially because everything else in the world goes on as normal. The sleep may come back last, which can be very frustrating as you said. There are some things you can do to help. There are natural remedies such as Valerian Root, Melatonin, Teas that you can drink before you go to sleep that promote relaxation/sleep. If you have anything prescribed to you like ambien, that will definitly help. There are also vitamins that help with the restless legs and one thing I did that helped is wrap your legs in heating pads while you lay on the couch for like 30 minutes or however long as needed, I swear my legs felt SO much better after that. Excercise also helps so much.

You have definitely not made a mistake in choosing to stop. You've got to fight through the detox for a week or so but then you have your life to live again. You don't have to wake up and immediately take pills so you aren't sick and so you can go out and manage your day. Everything will feel better, people will notice changes in you, and you will be proud of yourself. People always tell me, just focus on today, and getting through today. Tomorrow you can worry about tomorrow. I think from here on out, (most people say days 3-5) are the worst, you will start to feel better each day. Congrats on 5 days!!
