Fried brain?

Ok, so I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I'm a smart person. Have made straight A's my whole life & even in college. I'm on day 6 clean & I just started trying to put a puzzle together to try & just take my mind off being tired/anxious. I feel so overwhelmed...like its the most difficult puzzle on the planet. I feel like its such a challenge! I've always put puzzles together with my dad & its never felt like this before. Is it normal to feel slow/dumb after detoxing? If so, how long till I don't feel like my brain has been totally fried?

You are experiencing a normal part of detox. On my day 6, I decided to clean the pool; it needed it because I didn't care about anything while on the meds and it was looking bad. Anyway, I've done the cleaning a millions times; but, never in a post-detox fog. Long story short, I slipped and feel half way into freezing water. I laughed, cried, shivered, made sure my cell phone still worked (had it in my pocket - smart) and decided I'd done enough chores for the day. You'll look back and laugh. Promise.

I agree with the above posters.. Thinking was a monumental task for me :) really I would loose train of thought easily totally forgot how to spell and could not even put a cohesive sentence together to get support our to give.. I'm constantly amazed at how clear some peps post come out early in their recovery.. this will pass I did not try something as difficult as a puzzle ! what I did do was grab my camera took myself outside and started taking pics. This helped a lot to pass time it took no effort in thinking and outside felt great Inside I felt as if I was smothering.. in a few weeks this will pass also your eyes may seem a lil off this to is normal and will pass.  lesa

Yes this is very common.  That "fog" will eventually lift.  I remember those days and it is frustrating.  I couldnt imagine sitting down to a puzzle.  I would of thrown it halfway across town!!!  Hang in there, you are doing great!

Ha! Im not at all laughing at you,,Im laughing at me actually. I had the same problem as far as concentrating,,I couldnt even remember how to spell a word or Id totally forget what I was talking about med sentence. For me this lasted for about 3 weeks after I detoxed,,and from what I have learned in NA and aftercare and other members here this is completly normal. (I actually forgot what I was typing-lol). It will pass,,I promise. Its called brain "zaps" or something like that ( I cant remember) Oh gosh,,,I better quit now. It does pass~Bkitty
