Dealing with insomnia during withdrawal from pain meds

I herniated a disk about 4 months ago and had a discectomy surgery 12 days ago. I had been on Lortab 5 for  1 1/2 months before the surgery and Percocet for 4 days after the surgery, so I'm on my 8th day clean. I'm pretty well thru with the nausea now but I'm looking for help with the loss of appetite, insomnia and depression.  All I'm taking now is a few (2-6) ibuprofen a day to help with the aches I'm dealing with as I am starting to do some light work around the house.

Does anyone have any advice to help me get thru this?

The insomnia was crazy for me too... it took some experimenting, but I did find something that worked for me. I tried benadryl, melatonin and a few others, helped some... but the thing that worked for me was literally called " knock out" its valarian root, melatonin and theanine. Im out in 30 minutes and wake up uninterrupted for 6 hours. At the vitamin shoppe!

It's now day 8 (made a mistake figuring yesterday) and I can still hardly sleep.
I did a lot of chores around the house yesterday and the activity really seemed to help. I thought it would make getting sleep a little easier though but that didn't seem to be the case. On top of the insomnia, I am now getting a dry mouth. Is that from loss of electrolytes? If so, what is a good electrolyte replacement that does not contain high fructose corn syrup, which I refuse to put in my body?

Thanks cleanguy!

I'm going to check and see if anyone around locally has it. I'm fed up with laying in bed staring at the ceiling and I'd like to give it a try tonight.

Thanks weaver71!
I can see how thinking something like counting backwards could get one's mind off of all sorts of other things that seem to be coming to the front of my mind as I try to sleep. I'll give it a try tonight.

Way to go, day 8. Insomnia seems to be the number one issue for many. The most natural approach is melatonin. Benadryl or Tylenol PM works for many. I used to lay in bed and count backwards from 100 over and over. If I was still awake in an hour, I walked a lap around the back yard, and tried again. I would catch myself skipping numbers and losing my place and bam, I would wake up. Hang in there, it will get better.
