Detox v. Recovery

"Detox is like mowing all the weeds down. Rehab and especially recovery is like pulling all the weeds out by the roots."   I just bought this kindle ebook called The Interventionist and can't let go of it! I don't think we all place enough attention on recovery. I can see in myself already the minimal amount of time and planning I have spent on what comes after detox. I know EXACTLY what's available a what's best but my mindset isn't there yet....I need to get it there!

Yes it is a quote from that book. I imagine I'll find others in this awesome book. But yeah ...about recovery ...I know it's needed ...the aftercare is so important.... I only know that from what you all say and what I read and research. I seem to wrongly believe that this time I just won't use. I only used once and it lasted a year and 15 days ago I stopped. So since I know how bad it is now I just won't do it again. It's that kind of thinking that I know can't be good for me! ****....the hard part really does start now.

This is why we say that getting clean is the easy part, staying clean is the hard one.  We preach recovery care here as using is only a symptom of what is really going on.

sorry - "quite" should be "quote".  And I wanted to add that yes, recovery is like pulling up the weeds by the roots - and it has to be done over and over again.....I do alot of gardening, and I never seem to get the whole root...

Hi Mike,

That is a great analogy.  Once you mow down the weeds they're gone - for a few days. - And then the dam* things grow right back again!

I'm assuming that was a quite from The Interventionist?  If not,  maybe you should be doing the writing :)

Best of luck to you on your continued recovery...

Sandy :)
