The biggest step of all is this Thursday.

I have an appt with my pain Mgmt Doctor this Thursday at 8:30am to get my oxy and MS Contin refilled.  I just cancelled that spot and the nurse was beyond shocked. Actually tried to talk me out of it by saying "do you realize how much pain you'll be in?"

My response was " I'm tired of pills running my life and am prepared to suffer whatever consequences I have to so I can live pill free. Next came the threat from the nurse. "if you cancel you'll never be able to come to this clinic again."  Even more ammo I need to confirm that the pain Mgmt doc really doesn't care about me but is more concerned about how many scripts he can wright

Not Gonna lie here. I'm scared to death right now as those dang pills have been my safety blanket for so many years and not having them is causing me a great deal of anxiety. Please wish me luck.

Best choice if your going to jump, the PMD would only destroy you in the end .. starting with when things get bad during the WD which they will just knowing those pills are on the other end of the phone will drive you nuts then later during recovery know the are there for the special time will eat you up so in the beginning of the plan CUT ALL CONNECTIONS and you increase the success by 50% best wishes.

Way to go!  I cancelled my monthly pain clinic appt in July, and haven't been back since.  I know how scary it is!

Well done! That's a huge step. That's insane that you PM doc doesn't want you as a patient if you're not on narcotics. Most PM places at least claim that they have many ways to treat pain outside of pain meds. If they're pushing meds like that, there's a chance the DEA is watching them. It's better for you to get out now before the DEA raids the place and all of their patients are left high and dry.

You really are doing the right thing. I recently chose to walk away from ten years of prescribed Oxy from my PM doc. My pain is still there, but I realized that the Oxy wasn't helping me at all. It only made me feel like crap because in addition to the pain, I had withdrawal issues on top of it. It's far better now that I'm just dealing with the pain, not watching the clock, counting pills, feeling like crap in between doses, etc.
