Need desperate help withdrawing from vicodin

I've been on vicodin for about a year.  Can take up to 8-11 a day.  Can't function without them now.  I did'nt take any  yesterday and felt like  you know what.  I am a female and   it's destroying every part of my life.  I woke up today and took 5 just to feel normal.  How do I stop the cycle? I'm miserable.I'm also in a legal matter involving alcohol so I can't
get into any trouble.  I have to stop.  Yesterday was hell I couldn't see sitting staring another minute.  Now I have to start over
again.  Please help. J231

Hi,
I'm glad you came here... I really think its helpful to hear others stories.  Thats why I came her too.  8-11 vicodin IS a lot!!  IF you cannot have these opiates for legal reasons then Cold Turkey may be the way to go.. BUT It will be rough for about 10 days!!  You really IMO have to be mentally prepared!!  If you can TRY to wean first then withdrawl wont be AS bad  BUT you will have withdrawl.  Just remember everyones withdrawl is different and people do it different ways also.   If your having legal issues you might be better off finding medical help for yourself. Admitting your problem and then asking for help!  The courts will look at this more favorable then getting caught doing something you shouldnt be doing.??
I was on that many percocets for about 10 years.. Then I weaned down and for the past year have been on between 2-4 a day.  The FIRST thing I did to wean was .. In the morning when I used to take 2.. I started taking 1... Thats the first one I cut out.... then started skipping the 10 am pill and wait till the next one.. and so on..... It IS a mental thing once you have become accustomed to a schedule but you CAN DO IT!!!  Althought I was prescribed the meds from a pain specialist that really doesnt make a difference when you decide to or must stop!   I finally went cold turkey 7 days ago... Ya, it sucked and my body hated me and still does a bit.....BUT my point being, you MUST imo be mentally ready to truly do it AND YOU CAN!!  Its not really THAT bad... Its manageable..... I hope this helps a little.  Send me a messege if you want to chat..
Best regards, Kim

I think the best way to do it is cold turkey, but for some that just isnt realistic so they taper.  Either way, it is such a mental thing and if you really want to be free from this then all you have to do is take the steps necessary.  I know how vicious the cycle is and I feel the pain you are going through but it is possible to get your life back.  I was able to get clean with the help of an in home detox.  I saw a doctor who specialized in addiction and she gave me prescriptions for meds that were non narc and helped ease the withdrawals.  I still had a couple really rough days though.  If you have insurance and that is possible, maybe you should look into it.  If not, then check out the other options like the Aminos and the Thomas Recipe. Either way, I wish you all the best

I agree with cathy, you have to be sure you're ready. I managed to quit with full bottle in my stash, but I somehow knew it was time. Indeed your going to traverse a tough journey, but I can reassure you its well worth it. During your withdrawals, your body will try and convince you otherwise. You'll have tons of great support here.

All the best.

hi...first off if you are serious about quitting you have to get rid of all the pills you have and get rid of all the contacts you have to get more.  if you dont do that you will bever be able to quit.  once you have done that you have to accept you hare gonna feel like cr@p for a wekk or so.  quitting is not easy even when you really want to quit but impossible if you are not determined to do it.  there is alot of support here but you gotta be willing to do the work.  god luck
