Getting off Vicoden

I went cold turkey on Saturday and have not taken a Vicodin since Saturday.  I am wondering how long my w/drawls will be.  I was taking 4 Vicodin a day. 2 pills in the morning and 2pills in the afternoon.  I was put on Vicodin approx. 5 yrs. ago due to 5 herniated discs in my back.  I also have a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my back as well, which  does help the pain.

I feel that I was taking the Vicodin d/t my body just needing the Vicodin to make me feel better, pain wise and subconsciousness.  Please help.

You can do this everyday that goes by you will start to feel better, Try taking immodium for stomach issues and make sure you drink lots of fluids like water/gatoraid to flush your body the more fluids the better you will feel gets those toxins out and try and get some nutrition even if its just protein shakes it will help your body start a vitamin supplement also. And when the anxiety starts to set in Try going for a walk or makybe some music just know this will pass and life will be so much better Good Luck to you and keep posting You will get lots of help/support on here!  Congrats on taking your life back The possibilities are endless :)

I I am a 70 yo male and have been taking 4-6 vicodin for 4 years. Began cutting down to 2 per day 3 days ago. Feeling a little antsy but sleeping well. Does this seem like a reasonable amount to taper gradually?

You can do this.....just don't look back.    Like Waterlily said....withdrawal is temporary....you will be over it soon.   Don't give in to the pills, or you will have to start this all over again.   I believe depression is common.   I know I was worried that I wouldn't be able to function without the pills.   But believe me....there is life after pills and it is a much better life than you will have on them.   Hang in there....we are here if you need us....but let us know how you are doing.

congrats on your wise decision.
do what the others said as far as nutrition, the vitamins, ensure, and stay hydrated.
Try and remember that whatever you go through it is temporary, and it WILL END. You may experience som eanxiety and or some depression, and it will end, If you do, just keep your eye on teh goal, and it ends, I promise.
I was taking a ton of oxycodone and I am on day 40 today and life is wonderful.
hugs,
Lily

Thank you Mary and Free.  Any encouragements are welcome.  I am very tearful and down in the dumps today.  I have been having a few crying episodes.  I have been taking ibuprofen for body aches.  I am trying to keep myself busy and not think about taking the god aweful pills.

I want to reach out for a pill, but I know that if I take one, I will want to take more and more again.  Thank you for your posts and words of encouragement.  It helps me to know that there are other people out there like me.

No more than you were taking, I don't think your withdrawals will be too bad.
I could be wrong.   I was usually taking 4 a day for about 5 years.   Today and tomorrow will probably be the worst days and you will start feeling better a little every day after that.   I had energy issues that lasted about a month.   Just don't give up.   It is important to stay hydrated....drink as much water and Gatorade as you can.    Take Immodium for diarrhea.   Check out the Thomas Recipe for supplements to make you feel better.   Post often and let us know how you are doing.    Good luck!
