Hi!  It sounds like you are really scared.  I can almost feel it when I read.  The xanax is not good.  Not at all.  I know you're scared of the insomnia.  I was too, but taking xanax is only going to compound the problem.  They are horrible to get off of, and besides that, you will have insomnia when you stop them as well.  Might as well get it over with and not get addicted to yet another med, right?  It doesn't lasts forever!  I know that isn't what you want to hear.  I would call the doctor and let them know how you are feeling.

Good luck!

Okay...call your doctor and tell him/her that you're afraid to take Celexa. There are plenty of other meds but they all have side effects...some of which you probably won't experience at all.

Hi~ No,Xanax is not a good idea. How much are you taking per day?

Xanax can not be stopped cold turkey. Give your doctor a call and find out if you're a candidate for an antidepressant.  There are plenty of otc's you can take for insomnia.

Keep posting~

I went to the dr and confessed everything. He put me on celexa but from what I read about it I'm scared to take it because of the side effects. Plus I don't sleep at all without the Xanax. I have been clean of methadone since5/6/09 after abusing for 5 yrs. I have been on tabs for ten plus yrs!!! The zs help alot and just afraid Ian depending on them!!!

I have taken Xanax all my life; and that being said, ONLY use that stuff as long as you have to OK? I won't put a timeframe on it as that's not my place but trust me - after 18 years on it, it is certainly a part of my life - for a LONG time to come. Especially now that I am trying to get off the LAST part of the Oxycontin thing, I have needed it more than ever. It has helped, and I have not used it anymore than I would have.

I would say, in my opinion, that getting on a true anti-depressant after talking w/a Dr. is advisable rather than getting hooked on the Xanax. It is WORSE than the opiates - guaranteed - because it screws with your mind much more than the pain meds. I coudl be wrong, however with what I have read and experienced myself, I'd give up the pain meds in a heartbeat over the Xanax. Take it easy :):) I may be new here but I really know about this wonderful little 'gem' of a drug!!!
