HOW TO GET OFF OF METHADONE

I HAVE BEEN ON METHADONE FOR 5 YEARS . I WAS ON 150 MG A DAY FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS , NOW I AM ON 40 MG A DAY FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS NOW . I FELL FINE , BUT STILL AM VERY DESPERATE TO BECOME CLEAN OFF OF THIS MEDICATION . IF ANYONE OUT THERE READS THIS AND HAS GOTTEN OFF OF METHADONE . PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT HAS WORKED FOR YOU . I AM VERY SICK AND TIRED OF GOING TO A PROGRAM EVERYDAY TO GET MY MEDS & FOR MOST I JUST WANT TO BE THE PERSON I ONCE WAS . I WANT TO BE A NORMAL PERSON AGAIN WITHOUT THE DEPENDENCE OF SOMETHING EVERYDAY . I AM VERY SICK AND TIRED OF THIS . IM JUST REALLY SCARED TO GET OFF OF IT BECAUSE IVE BEEN THROUGH WITHDRAWELS IN THE PAST FOR METHADONE AND OTHER OPIATES . BECAUSE OF THE PAIN OF WITHDRAWELS IT ALWAYS BROUGHT ME RIGHT BACK TO THE MISERABLE LIFE OF OPIATES . I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR TSUCCESS STORIES ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO KICK THIS HABIT AND WHAT HAS WORKED FOR THEM WHATEVER IT MAY BE . THANKS FOR READING .

I totally feel where your coming from i was an addict for the last 7 years and last month on the 19th was the very last time i took methadome. I jus got fed up spending some much money and feeling like a prisoner to my habit. Ive tired to quit cold turkey in the past but i always failed, this time i cut my self down 1/4 of my regular dose every four days till i was at 2.5 mg then i just quit. It was rough i still tried to work and i am a carpenter so it was very hard to do but i jus pushed through it. i took 5htp vitamns to help with the anxiety though it doesnt help much it did help. I took lots of melotonin to sleep because that was impossible to do. The 1st week with nothing in my system was rough but keep positive and just do it. Get a bunch of great vitamns and dont take sleeping pills or any other narcatic it will make it 10 times harder. I havent reached a month clean yet but i feel damn good. Im sleeping better getting some of my energy back i notice my sence of humor is back to what it used to be, im not as irratable by any means, i have the drive to do things everyday with out being on something. All n all im so proud of myself because i actually did it! And u can too!!!! Just be strong and know that you will feel better and soon after youll have your life back! i still struggle a lil bit when i think about it but then i just remind myself of the struggle up until this post and it makes me push so much harder. Just believe and go for what you want!! GOOD LUCK!!

i am 4 yrs off drugs, you can do this
i kicked the clinic for alot of the reasons you mentioned
i am not a fan of methadone clinics or sub docs
at one time i thought these matinence drugs were the answer, but i still felt the same as i did on my drug of choice
do you think your clinic will work with you on a detox plan?
in my experience these type of doctors want their patients to stay on the meds long term and do not want to help them detox
maybe you can ask your doctor to start decreasing you 10mgs a week
then when you get down to 40mgs jump
its just an option, i had a love hate relationship with methadone for years, i have tapered, and gone ct
both are not easy, but you can do it!

I know just how you are feeling.I was once there myself, not to long ago.The fear of the w/ds is what kept me going to that clinic every morning for months and months.I finally one day reached the point where the fear of loosing my life completely to this drug, being a prisoner to that clinic for the rest of my life, became a greater fear then the physical discomfort and the fight to get and stay clean was.It sounds like you have reached that point also.Theeagle has given you good advice,he's been there too,and he knows what he's talking about.Him and many others here like him helped me through my methadone detox.I don't know where I would be without them.I just hit the 300 day mark a few days ago.Freeing myself from methadone was the best decision I have ever made.I got my life back now and you can get yours back too.Keep posting and if I can help in any way just shoot me a pm.All the best.I'm pulling for you...Peace...Kim

I found that by the time you are sick and tired of structuring your life around clinic schedules you are probably ready to quit...... I also feel that nutrition and supplements helped me greatly. Especially the amino acid's.... got to feed your body what it needs to heal itself.  But ultimately it takes time. Exercise while recovering probably speeds the process up a great deal.  But nothing will make it painless.  Will our clinic blind dose you? Some will - some wont.......but its a thought...
