Hi Lilly- Welcome!
Do you have support or will you be going through wd's alone? I was for the most part all by myself, but did have my husband helping ame a bit. What worked for me was following the thomas recipe which i'm sure you have seen mentioed in other posts. It can be found in the health pages at the bottom right of the page. I also used melatonin for sleep which didn't seem to help much at first, but with each day my sleep has been getting alittle bit better. My worst day was day 5, after that the wd's were pretty much gone. Do you have an aftrcare program in place? AA/NA meetings, counseling etc? This will be key to your long term recovery. I have gone through this a few times, but always went back to the pills. What is different this time for me is that I have started meeting with an addiction specialist to help me figure out why I began to rely on the pills in the first place and to help me learn better coping skills for my stress.
I wish you the best of luck- you will find do much support on the boards. Keep posting! Stay strong~
Steph
Congrats on waiting to quit cold turkey, thats the way I did it, and I would suggest it to anyone wanting to quit... The first 2 days were the worst, but seriously by day 3 I was feeling so good, I had so much energy... The worst thing for me was not being able to sleep... I tried melation, and it didn't work well for me... So I went to the grocery and bought over the counter sleep aid, which actually really helped! Other than that, the first 2 days, I was really on edge about EVERYTHING! I took about 100 baths, no joke!!! I couldn't get comfortable... My advice that I do like to share on here, that has worked the best for me is meditation... Every morning I like to grab a cup of coffee and a cig, and go outside and say 10 positive thoughts or affirmations about myself, that I can repeat to myself through out the day when **** starts getting bad or I feel like using... Or I journal, but no matter what... every morning after I do that... I go for a walk/jog... I seriously think that excerise has helped me the most... I have some much energy when I get home from a walk in the morning, and than at night after dinner, I go for a walk/jog and it helps me wind down! Best of luck Lilly, we are all here for you... this board definitely helped me get sober... just please stay connected, even if you slip... Best of luck to you... If you have anymore questions feel free to write me on here or you can email me if you would like ***@****. Sweet dreams <3 Jess
