I am Addicted and I dont know what to do.

Hello, I am new here, my name is Chris, im 23 and I am an Electrition in ATL, GA and about 2 months ago I was shocked by 277V AC for about 35 seconds and blown off a 12 foot ladder. I was rushed to the hospital with third degree burn on my right hand. The face of my thumb was completly melted and my index s burned pretty bad. The exit burn in the top of my middle finger middle knuckle witch still has a clean whole to the tendon. I have been on work realease ever sence I have been on Hydrocodone 10/325. My Orthapedic perscribed me 60 for 2 every for hours for 10 days. Just being that dosage is enough to get high on each time. I tried cutting back from the begining but the pain is too great even till today.

Every 10 days I try to see if I can "tough" it out for a couple days. Every time not only is the pain great, I cant sleep, I cant stand to be outside, I dont feel like doing anything, My entire body hurts for no reason, im not hungry, and my temper is the worst.

Even though it is not time to be done with my meds, I am worried what will happen when the pain goes away and I stop taking the pain meds. Is what I am experecning are withdraws? How long will they last? Is it dangrous? What alternative can I face? would rehab be approprate? Should I tell the doctor now or wait untill I can return to work? If anyone can help please do so. I am really scared. Even now it is 4am and i cant sleep just from thinking about it.

Welcome.....I apologize but I chuckled after reading your post.....About 3 years ago I posted an almost identical post.  I too was put on pain meds for a military accident and I was soooo nieve that I had no idea what the meds were doing to me.  I will admit that I knew I was taking more that I should but I would run out a few days to a week before my scripts renewed.  So, I started doing research and found this site.  I was literally on a mission to find out every and anything about addiction to narcotic pain relievers.  Well, as I was doing my research my habit grew and I found myself taking 150mg of hydro and or anything I could find.  Eventually my doctor cut me off and I was forced to buy them from friends and friends of friends if you know what I mean!  After 1,000 tries I finally got off of them and it has been four months since my last pill.  I am here to tell you that you need to consider coming off of these things as soon as possible.....You do not want to wind up like most of us here on this site.  If you quit now, detox will not be that bad.  I know from your post that you felt the effects of detox and you were miserable but THAT ISN"T ANYTHING compared to detoxing off of a bigger and longer habit.  Each and every time you relapse and go back to pills your detox gets worse.....The longer you stay on them the harder it is to get off of them.  That is why I relapsed so many times is because I had a career and family that I had to function for!

Bascially, getting off of these pills is easy if you do some research and have a small habit like yours.  First, you need to talk to your doctor about some non-narcotic pain relievers.....I have and had a horrible injury that was extremely painful but the prescription non narcotic drugs work well.  Matter of fact.....Your brain actually manifests more pain to try and trick you into taking more meds.  When I finally got off of the narco's the other pain meds actually worked better.

We can all help you to detox if that is what you choose but let me tell you that you must be 100% committed to getting off of them for good or it will not work.  There are a lot of natural supplements and OTC medication that we can help you get that will help with the acute part of the withdrawal.  I do not want to make this post too long so if you want, you can message me and I will give you the list of stuff I used which I sware by it and used it many many times and it truly shaves weeks off of your detox.  This process is harmless in regards to your health and please believe me that you need to get off of these things as soon as possible.....These pills work good for short periods of time but if you are on them more than a month it seems to always develop into a problem.....If you do not believe me, take a few days and read the posts on this site.....Really read them and see the desperation and pure torture these people are going through.....You do not want to let this habit get out of control and no matter what you think, IT WILL HAPPEN EVENTUALLY......I am a 37 year old working professional, community leader, I have a family with two children....If you were to look at me, you would think that I am a completely normal and productive member of society and it happened to me.....I was just like you and did not know at first that this could happen.  Doctor's never tell you that yeah, the drugs work great but eventually you will have to detox and go through living hell!  Many on this site can attest to what I am saying to be true.....Do yourself a favor and heed all of our warnings and GET OFF OF THEM NOW!!!!  A little pain now is a lot better than A LOT OF PAIN later!  Good luck and God bless!!!!

Hi and welcome to the forum~~~

I hope you are healing well from your accident.  As for the meds, i would talk with the doctor when it is time to get off them.  Tapering down will help.  I am glad you are asking these questions.  It is always good to be your own advocate.  Try and relax a bit.  Dont worry about rehab.  You need to heal now.  Keep talking with us~~sara

if you are still experiencing so much pain i would worry about getting off the meds just yet?
the dr. only gave you enough for 2 weeks but has since prescribed more?
are there plans in place for therapy or other pain management?
it is very easy to become depend on opiods. have you used drugs before?
why do you think you would need rehab after only taking them for 2 months?
