I broke my arm.....

Yesterday i broke my left arm!!! Heres my demons coming back to haunt me and really bringing me down.  I used any opiate i could get my hands on for over 2 years.  Usually Norco and i took around 200-250 mg  a day.  Im currently 157 days clean and sober from all opiates!!!!

Heres my problem, MY ARM IS KILLING ME!!!! Ive taken motrin, naproxen, asprin, and no pain relieve.....When the doctor asked me if i wanted Norco for pain I actually said no!  Now thats a good thing except my demons dont think it was a good idea to say no.  My head is playing tricks on me bigtime and im over 5 months clean.  What can i do to get my head focused again?  I think the pain is really not helping either lol....but so far so good and not taking any opiates, opiods

just updating my status on my broken arm.  IT still hurts and im still in great pain...... which is a good thing because if i couldnt feel this pain i would be using again!!!! Its been a week today and still no Norco's.. Just been using tylenol, advil, naproxen, and lots of ice and heat......  Dont get me wrong ive thought about it everyday for a week and i still have turned the other way.  I told my dr. it hurts really bad but i had a problem with opiates in the past and he was gladly to prescribe me naprosyn and robaxin for pain and muscle spasms .. He asked if i wanted valium for anxeity during my pain and cravings and i also said no....Now i didnt have a problem with benzos and never really cared for them but im not about to start and find out if i like them now! lol  So to everyone who replied thank you and im still on the right track!! 164 days today!!!

You are doing great .I as well suffer from chronic pain and sometimes it is REALLY hard but I manged to not use unless I was coming out of surgery or have a kidney or gallstones .Even then I only took it for a few days.It really helps if someone holds the pills for you if you really feel like you can not handle the pain. Also only getting very small scripts like ten at a time .I could either take them as described or suffer I never abused them cuz the pain was so bad I was not going to screw myself .
I would keep trying to do it without the pills and see what happens .

oops...meant to type Toradol an antiflammatory...not toradol and an antiinflammatory because toradol is an antiinflammatory. This is exactly the type of situation that can test a recovering addict and is a true test of character.I have seen many people who are not able to handle opiates(usually elderly people) cope with broken bones with non opiate pain relievers.

How about combining ibuprofen800mg every 4 hours with tylenol extrastrength 1000mg every 4 hours for a few days till the throb dies down.If that does not help try percogesic otc pain relief and maybe the doctor can prescribe Toradol and antiinflammatory for the pain.None of these are opiates and may help you get thru the worst.Even tylenol PM may be a bit more potent than regular tylenol and may help sleep.Ice packs may help as well.I hope you find relief soon without opiates or tramadol because they cause rebound pain.

Congratulations to you! You are incredibly strong and must be absolutely dedicated to your sobriety. It must have been super hard to say no to the Norco. YAY, YOU!!!!

I live with chronic pain and I've also broken my arm. I know how painful it is. On bad days, I tell myself that pain is just another sensation. We are conditioned to give it a negative label.

It may be helpful for you to get some Arnica creme to put on your arm. Homeopathic Arnica is also very helpful. Are you familiar with them? You can get them at your local healthfood store. Ice and heat may help as well.

I really can't be much more helpful than that. I do want to send my big congratulations and admiration for how strong you are with this. Once you come out on the other side, you will likely feel stronger than ever for having passed this huge test of your resolve.
