I was Rx'ed clonidine HCL as a potentiator to opiates, essentially so I could take less of a bad thing.  Beware there is such a thing as clonidine withdrawl - FAR worse than opiate w/d - pounding heartbeat, sweats, and lots of anxiety.  What happened was I had quit opiates long ago, continued clonidine for my hypertension, then when I quit salt (removed from my Rx diet by my MD)- my blood pressure tanked, and that's when I suddenly had to quit clonidine, which was worse than opiates!

Clonidine was a life saver for me.  In fact, I still use it today for fibromyalgia pain.  Works wonders but be careful, it also lowers your blood pressure. Stick to the instructions.

As Lulu747 I also used clonidine while tapering off opiates and just wanted off and went cold turkey over a year ago. (morphine sulfate and fentanyl patch).  The clonidine did help with my w/d symptoms as well.

Hi and Welcome...
I am not sure exactly what you are asking....But I took clonidine while tapering off opiates (prescribed) and then increased the dose when I was tired of tapering and just wanted off (cold turkey off 100 mg oxy 27 days ago).  It really helped me with a lot of the w/d symptoms especially the gastric and anxiety. Did a doctor prescribe the clonidine?  Do they know about your taper?  Clonidine is commonly prescribed for opiate detox.  Let me know if you need anything....Lu
