Good for you Sellcatt....I know you pain.  I have just started to taper, and like a fool I went down 50%.  I am on day 4 and I am feeling the "Oxy Blues". ....Just make sure you have a family member or friend that you can go to for help if the Beast starts to call you back. ...God Bless

My guess that means taper. No doctor in their right mind would expect this to be possible with out major W/D. Many doctors have no first hand experience with the terrible things that happen. I guess they just cut you off and turn their back from what I have seen. If they had any idea what a person goes thru they may not perscribe any of this ****.

I was in pain mangement for a bad back and was on oxy for 9 years.I started out at 80mgs a day and ended up at over 800,also taking 30 mg roxis for breakthrough.
Some people who have legititmate pain that are on it for  a long time do get to those high levels
You saying 160mgs a day is the norm is way wrong,I did that 4 x aday plus the 10 roxis.
Of course I got addicted but thats beside the point.

Actually, Mika, there is no absolute ceiling for daily Oxycontin. And there's definitely no "legal" ceiling. It all depends on the individual. Where are you getting your information? And what's up with your attitude?? I see lots of meds misspelled on these boards; I also see lots of bad grammar. SO WHAT? Your personal attack was uncalled for.

After 3 years, my high dose was 2-80mg, 3-40 mg, and 3-20mg ... 340mg. Yes, very high, but I tolerated it very well. While 800 mg/day seems incredibly high to me, we don't know the OP's story.

It sounds to me like the OP has spent the past five months tapering from 800 to 620 mg and for some reason, his/her doctor is discontinuing care. If this is the case, the OP is certainly in a predicament. I do believe that when a doctor discharges a patient from his/her practice, the patient must be given a script for a 30 day supply of medication; the it is unethical and illegal for the doctor to just leave the patient high and dry like that.

OP, can you give us more details? Please know that it is extremely rare for people on this board to be as rude as Mika was to you. There's no excuse for that. As Ga Guy said, this is a safe place for people to be honest, without being judged.

Due to tolerance issues, many pain patients are on doses that are much higher than 160mg a day. I'm not sure what you mean by "legal" dose either. Doctors are free to pretty much prescribe whatever they consider necessary to the patient's treatment. Also, keep in mind that many people are on this board from other countries where their chosen words are different than ours. Lean down may very well be the term he uses for tapering. This has to be a safe place for people to come and tell their deepest secrets. If they fear ridicule, then they will be less likely to ask for the help they need.

I've known several people on this high of a dosage-  its not THAT uncommon.
How do you jump up and immediately call a random stranger a lier??
