Please Help Me!

I have a chronic back condition. I also have diabetes and high blood pressure . I was prescribed pain meds for my back ten years ago. At this time I take two 5mg percocet pills four times a day 40mgs a day...I'm tired of taking the medication and would rather deal with the pain or with treatment with a non-narcotic drug. So I decided to stop taking the medication and relised even though I only took what was precribed to me I'm having withdraws....The problem is it's effecting my blood pressure and after checking some of the withdraw problems I'm very concerned about my diabetes if I'm going to have diarreha and vomiting. This is a very dangerous thing and could cause me to go into diabetic shock. I really want off these pills is there anything I can do??? Please Help ME!

Good mornin. Sure we can chat anytime, I just hop offline like everyone else-haha, gotta once in while!
Congrats on stopping smoking! On top of the pill problem(which in my case is a relapse to begin with by the way, I had lost my father,my engagement broke up, a whole series of things happened awhile back and I started to dabble-I got treatment and was clean almost 7 months...I stopped going to my pysch and counselour because I thought I didn't need to anymore-wrong!! So, our stories are different, in that even though I have some undiagnosed pain myself,I took pills more to drown my sorrows and forget-it's NOT a good excuse, just the truth.),,anyways I smoke too much and drink too much too! But I have to slay one demon at a time right now.
Been smoking since I was 14 and I just turned 30, ha, I even just bought one of those new electronic ciggarettes to beat the Michigan smoking ban that starts in may.
But those, though not approved by the FDA yet, allegedly don't cause cancer-basically you get nicotine(which though addictive, by itself doesn't cause cancer), and a water vapor steam-theyre interesting, but your all done so more power to ya!
I just woke up, I'm drinking green tea. Its been about 24 hours now since my last pill. Not doin too bad-just a bit flu like.
The time I messed with vicoden before I never fell in as deep as I did this time. This time it took over my whole life-its basically, I quit or I lose everything I have and die young...so I'm going for the gold!
Let me know how you are when ya get around to it! Hope your havin a good one!
    All the best! Lori

u r correct to be worried///and after 10 yrs of use//it is almost a given u will have physical wds..u r not an addict from what ur post reads////if u r not this will be easier

This wd needs to be supervised by ur dr..it does not mean u can not do it//being a diabetic is the part that is a bit scary but most pill poppers do not vomit at all...that is for high users like heroin or extreme doses of oxy//as a rule that is//anxiety and fear can cause ur tummy to explode!  Do you check ur blood sugar frequently?
Imodium will stop the runs almost right away//it is extremely doubtful u will vomit///fluids are important....gatorade or sugar free EmergenC//dehydration feel rough....BPressure can be treated with a brief adjustment in ur medications....it will be over in a week or less....let ur dr know....it is just the smart thing to do right now

Hey if you want I'll hang around and BS back and forth to you to help make the time pass a little quicker. I quit smoking cold turkey just a few months ago after smoking for 30 years. I know that's not the same there was no sickness that I felt ...but the craving was amazingly hard to beat ...but no going back to that demon...That's partly why I want off this shy...t. I feel like I'm on parole or I'm some kind of criminal...my doctor sent me to a pain clinic and they spend more time taking urine samples then they do actually trying to treat my back problem and all they suggest is shots and pills....Hasn't worked for ten years what makes them think it's gonna start working now?...lol

Oh your welcome! Man. I'm 11 hours into a cold turkey detox after a 15 pill a day vicoden habit--I'm scared too-but what we CAN'T do, is think everything will be awful till we actually walk through it. Anticipating everything in fear is just gonna wind us up and make it worse.
Withdrawls are physical for sure, but anxiety plays a big role. I'm trying to just take it all a minuite at a time... : )

Yeah one more thing-alot of folks are sucked into addiction thinking that a doctor wouldn't do it--the sad fact is, drugs(pharmaceuticals), are big bussiness-that's why we see so many commercials on tv asking us to 'talk to our doctor' about getting on specific medications....it's all money, just like anything else.
I don't know if doctors get some sort of kickback or bonus from it, but it sure seems that way sometimes? Just a point to ponder.
      Love and Luck, Lori

Hi again-yeah, all I meant by 'come clean' was tell your doc you want off the pills. See what other kind of route you can go. If he-or she is the one giving you the pills it's not 'coming clean', but asking for a different treatment method.
Just plain tell them your tired of percs, want to stop but need the medical know how on HOW to do it.
    Again, all the best!!! Lori

Nothing to come clean to the doctor with . He is aware of everything except the fact I want off the meds if that's what you mean...Thanks for the answers though I figured I would probably not be able to do this on my own and would need my doctors help just didn't relise I would have withdraws when I was only taking what was prescribed by a physican

Hey there- Ummm, look, I don't mean to sound harsh and I'm d@mn sure not a doctor----but it really sounds like you need to come clean with YOUR doctor.
I don't think thats a crazy dosage, but with your medical problems, you need to make sure your body can handle detoxing on your own....the only way to do that is with a pro's advice.
It's a very good move, what your doing-I'm a healthy 30 year old woman and 15 vicodens a day SKYROCKETED my blood pressure-I NEVER had issues till i started drowning in that poison. So, I give you credit for breaking free! But please-Do it SAFELY and fess up to your doc.
All my best and lots of love to you-Lori

YOU HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR.... no one here will give you medical advise.. your conditions are serious enough without adding to them .. you need to call your doctor and explain that you do not want to take them anymore and they can safely get you off.. don't do this without medical supervision please...

You have underlying medical conditions that you're going to have to speak with your physician about. Any advice given here would be medical advice, and no one here is qualified to do that.
