Trying to stop!

Hi everyone. I am new to the site and I am sooooo glad to have found it! It feels better just knowing that there's people out there that are going thru the same stuff as myself.  I have been a vicodin addict for 3yrs now. I broke my hip back in 03 and walked on it until I couldnt walk any more! Had total hip replacement in dec. 08 and havent been able to get off the pain meds! Everytime I try I suffer withdraws that are sooooo bad! Its a terrible thing to suffer thru! So my question is... whats the best way to taper down and deal with the withdraws. Any help will be greatly apprieciated!

Why don't you see how you do and if you can make it till your refill? If you can, then you can definitely get off of this stuff. just think about it...if you can make it a few days, you can make it through what I've heard is the worst of it at the 3rd or 4th day. What do you think?

Wow! sounds like your doing a great job at tapering! Good for you! I took my last one today at 10am. So I have ran out... so now Im sitting here and starting to get the wd's! Should I pick up the phone and start calling around? Or just deal with it? I have to go until wends or thurs until I get my refill. I hate running out before I am due for my refill!

Why don't you try cutting back a half a pill a day. Or even a half pill for two of your doses each day? I've done a quicker taper. I dropped for 10/ day to 6 then to 5 for a day and then 3 1/2 today. I don't feel TERRIBLE, just a little icky. BUT-I wasn't having withdrawals after 6 hours. I think a slower schedule would work better for you since you do.

Hi taperme. I'm currently taking 8-10 a day! I know that's alot. I take 2 at a time, 4-5 times a day! And then when my script runs out I go looking on the street. I have several connections on speed dial but hate the fact that i have to pay the price on the street! Yeah, I need to find a schedule that's gonna work for me! What kind of schedule are you following? The withdraws usually hit me hard if I go longer that six hours! They include nausea, sweats, shakes, diarrea, body aches, and then the leg that had the surgery on always feel's like there's bugs crawling all over it! And the worst is at night and trying so sleep and I cant. My pain keeps me up alllll night!

How many are you taking a day? I am certainly not an expert in this and am just myself tapering down. But I think a big part of figuring out how to start tapering is by making some kind of schedule for yourself. And STICKING to it! :)
