One thing I didn't realize about my addiction that step 2 helped me with was that I had gone spiritually bankrupt. I walked hundreds of miles on a pilgrimage of faith with no money. I have worked with orphans and starving in 3rd world nations. I have always fought for justice and stood up for the oppressed. After years on opiates, I had forgotten about faith, God, or my spirit. This step seemed easy at first, but I realized having my feelings anesthetised for so long, my spirit and faith had become ideas, not my reality. I'm not sure I nailed this step the first time, it was probably my 3rd time through the steps that I actually took this step. Only a Higher Power can reveal a Higher Power, so this is a more complex step than it first appears.
