Living in in 2 places

I live in 2 states have a doctor in each. I have perscriptions in each state fo with refills , this way I can get my refills when i am in aighther place. All this talk about having perscriptions in 2 different states is scaring me but how do you live in 2 places and still get your meds ? Does this mean I will be red flagged ? Have had narcotics perscribed for back pain in a week I will be having surgery for my toes in the other state ?.. Now I am paranoid?......will I be red flagged becouse of this?

This sounds just fine to me. I wouldn't worry at all, honestly. Good luck with your surgery!

Thal you! The drs in both states know and i never have perscription at the same time in 2 states . For instance my surgery is going to be in one state and the end of my post op will be in another both drs know! My insurance has never said anything as of yet. It is sad that one has to be afraid to seek medical help and paIn relief from surgery or injury  in this day and age ty for your help !

Do the doctors know about each other?

If your running it thru your insurance it will immediately be brought to your attention by your pharmacy and all Dr.that have rx'ed narcotic's. I am also seasonal in two states and 3 years ago I filled narcotic's in both states maybe 5 times and my insurance did alert the Dr's. I can imagine the system is even more advanced now. Best policy is to tell the Dr. what is going on to keep from looking like your trying to beat the system. Much luck with your upcoming surgery. Hope this helped.

If both doctors know about this then it's not a problem.  It's unusual though. That's why Walgreens has a policy for this sort of thing. They will transfer an rx from one state to another, within their system.  Otherwise, it does look like you're trying to get away with something...

Maybe you should ask one of the dr's to give you enough supply to last until you come back. Whichever dr you feel most comfortable with. Explain the living situation and maybe there is a mail order pharmacy you can use or something. I just wouldnt want to risk it.

Im not sure how each state's DEA tracks all of that. But Im pretty sure they just check their own state. Like say if your in Texas and Louisiana. The DEA in Texas is going to run you in Texas. They wouldnt have authority in another state. Im not positive but do you know how many people probably do this and get away with it. But if I were you just to be on the safe side I would stop because if you do get caught "Dr shopping" I know in most states its a felony for dooing that. so I would stop while Im ahead if I were you. Do you have a dependency problem with the pain meds?

You may get some answers here because there are a lot of very knowledgeable people here.  I don't know the answer to this.  You may also want to post this on the chronic pain forum.  Best of luck.
