You haven't been on methadone a long time. Over years it builds up in bone and fat. If you taper off slowly now, you will have far less withdrawal than many of the horror stories you may have heard. Slow and steady, wins the race. Talk to your provider about a slow taper.
Hey my name is Katie. I was on methadone maintenance for almost 3 years. I just came off of it last Year like late in the year I think around September or October. Anyways, back then I thought I would NEVER EVER get unsick.mi was on 167mgs and I had an issue with my new insurance not covering the weekly payments or any of the payments for that matter. Well, now as devastated!!! So, I had to come off. They did a fast detox over 30 days and they ended up only being able to take me down to 90mgs before I had to stop completely. WELL!!! Oh my god !! I was soo vitally ill it was unbelievable!!! I did so well too on the program I like always got up every single day I had my routine down I would dose every day as soon as I woke up and then come back home get ready and go to work. I was so sick that I started to miss too many days at work. I lost my job needless to say but that was only the beginning of my problems. I couldn't eat, sleep, omg I couldn't do anything at all. It got to the point where I eventually started using again. But!!! Let me tell you there wasn't enough heroin in the world that helped me!!, I mean I was just unbelievably I'll. so I ended up signing myself back into inpatient treatment for the 13th time! Then I was in for it Bc I literally have NEVER EVER been through ANYTHING like that in my life and I have been doin dope for seven years and before that pills, lots of pills like I was up to about 4 oxy 80s a day before I started shooting dope. It was insanity!!!!! So, I got through my detox that aw as supposed to be five days theta turned into 12. Days and the went into rehab again and then a sober house.i came home and unfortunately I relapsed but that's simply Bc I came bk into the same environment I left from. That's the key you must leave ANYTHING AND ANYONE BEHIND YOU THAT ARE GOING TO AFFECT YOUR RECOVERY NEGATIVELY!!! No one is worthy our sobriety! Remember it's your ice.mi now am waiting to go back into treatment AGAIN, but I figure at east I know wat I need to do I just need to comity myself completely let go ad et god hep me, guide me. Remember it takes 7-10days for a methadone dose, either up or down to completely kick in I guess you could say. So, you wouldn't really feel any effects is your dose went down like you say yours did until about two weeks after your dr. Dropped your dose. On another note you will not die from it. Just make sure u stay hydrated. I know they age me catapress. That is a low blood pressure medication but it is proven to take away a lot of our withdrawal symptoms. Like the legs the kicking and muscle spasms it helps with. Also seltzer water helps and almost stops the restless leg syndrome. I know white deer run rehab gives that now especially at night time. Also muscle relaxers help along with a sleep medicine. But be careful definitely consult your doctor ya know....it'll be worth it in the long run. I have heard the longer your on it the worse the detox is so it's definitely a good thing that you haven't been on it that long too. If you need anything or just want to talk let me know. Keep your head up it can only get better from here!!! Good luck!
first of all youre not gonna die from the stuff, regardless of all the myths methadone is safe if used the way its prescribed, people have been taking methadone for 35 yrs and there is no scientific proof that it cause any physical damage, it does have side effects but it doesnt causes damage after taking it llong term, it also doesnt cause liver damage thats another myth, the liver does metabolize but methadone is much easier to metabolize than many other types of medication, so dont worry. did your doctor tell you how long youre supposed to use it. i think you should consult a doctor about ccomin off it, hope everthing works out
