Sama---Stopping oxys abruptly will cause w/d, if she can deal with tapering then she should try with her doctors supervision. Tapering takes alot of patience and strength as it is a difficult thing to do. If she still has pain it makes it even more difficult but there are alternative ways of dealing with the pain such as Acupuncture, epidural and/or nerve blocks. I wish her luck in whatever she plans on doing and she should come on to the forum to get some insight into what she is in for. God Bless---Rick

Hi & Welcome,

She needs to follow her doctor's instructions and taper schedule. It may take longer than you would like it to, but it may be best for her. She is on a fairly high dose so stopping abruptly will cause some intense withdrawal symptoms.

Let us know how she is doing. If she is willing, ask her to come on here herself and talk with us. We can recommend some home remedies to help her ease the withdrawal process once she starts to taper down.

Abruptly stopping any medication is not wise.  Do this with your doctor helping you through it.  I too take oxycontin, and have had to reduce the milligrams in order to adapt.  Oxycontin is an intense medication you cannot just stop without physical and psychological consequences...
