HELP STARTED METHADONE AND NEED TO KNOW IS FEELING HIGH IS NORMAL?!?!

Yesterday I started the methadone program I only take 25mgs. BUT l am in no pain and high and if I am doing something like cleaning I am fine but if I sit down my body wants to fall asleep (nod). What the heck is this normal?? I was under the impression that I would not be high and still be in pain and have to have my dose upped on Friday? I was not in pain yesterday at all and like I said I was high and could not shut up I was annoying myself (lol). Itchy ect I know that opiates do have this effect but since I havent felt this effect in years is my dose to strong maybe or is this all normal when you first start the program??? Someone please let me know before I go again today to get my next dose. I am just paranoid that I will OD I guess.... NORMAL OR NOT?????????????????

PS.. I do not think I will be increasing my dose on Friday thats for sure

Thanks I have looked up so much I think I have info over load. I also think thats why I think at times I am ODing because the nod ect but I went and spoke with the pharmist and he assured me I will feel high as a bird and my dose is probally a lil to high at the moment but that he can't reduse it untill Friday when the Dr is back. But he told me no I am not over dosing :) But I am still scared because I have never been this high in my life and I do not like it at all!!
Also those women are so lucky they won't tamper me off untill after the birth are u in Canada???

Do some research about methadone & preganacy, to the best of my knowledge as long as your on a low dose the baby should be fine, in fact I know of two other women from my old methadone clinic who were also pregnant & both their babies were fine, but they both tapered off of it prior to giving birth.  Penelope

Yes I am I told the Dr that I wanted off by 32 weeks so the baby would not be born dependant . But he told me he can't do that due to the risks of withdrawl and the fetus. So he agreed that he would staert lowering my dose after the birth. Can I ask you a question? Are you on methadone?? I am going to go no higher than I am now trust me. It worked well I think a lil to well and I will not keep going higher and higher just for the buzz ( it scares the hell outta me). And the higher I go the harder it will be to get off. The dr is in for a suprise when I go back to see him on friday. He is probally used to ppl upping the dose none stop but I refuse to go up any higher than I am. THIS IS A SCARY FRICKING DRUG mabie my body just don't handel it well idunno

mommy,
Try to stay on the lowest dose possable. Are you going to stop the methadone after you have the baby?

No trust me I tried and they won't give me Sub during my pregnacy :(
Methadone is my only choice I am in Canada.........   Man oh man wtf now what do I do???  Tell the pharmacy what I felt like??????   I do not like feeling high I know that probally makes no sence I like feeling normal what ever that feels like anymore I just don't know. They say the methadone is best in pregnacy due to its so long acting and that the baby will not go into withdrawls in the uterus. ?I am aware that my child has a high chance of being born dependant.. I know what some of you must be thinking right now. I tried detoxing behind the pros back and failed many times. They do not want pregnant women detoxing from opiates as it imposes a risk or preterm labor and misscarrige. If I was not pregnant I would not have went on the methadone. But In all reailty I have been told and do beleave its the best thing I can do for my child at the moment. I am in one heck of a mess and I know it but I am only trying to do the right thing and follow the drs recomenations

maybe try taking half that dose and if u still feel jittery only take another quarter...you've taken a step in the right direction you don't want to go back to where you were, I'm glad to hear that you got in to see the doctor and got the help you needed.

I'm not sure about sub and pregnancy.  I think they don't have any studies on it yet. So I guess it wouldn't be an option.

Yes I would say to high.. I would not go up on friday. It never made me high. But it does alot of people. As your body gets use to it, it will stop. you won't get high. I think that is how people get up to 100mgs. they up ther dose when they are not feeling the high.. Just a guess here..
Be so careful, it is very addicting, and hard to get off of. I know been there, done that!!!

   Good luck..

Please , please read up on Methadone before you go any further on it.  I don't mean to scare you, but this drug is one of the worst to get off of. It also seems they never lower people's dose's , only increase them.  Suboxone would be a much better choice.

Sounds like a bit too high of a dose. Yes you can get high and it is used to kill pain. My son in law uses it for pain management. You do know it is extremely addictive? It is also very hard to get off of.
