lorcet plus addiction

I have been on lorcet plus for over 10 yrs.  I take 3-4 each day.  I am trying to go cold turkey, because my family does not know I've been on them this long.  how long will it take me to withdraw?

Hi there and welcome! The length of withdrawls depends on a lot of different factors. Age, general health, dosage, and length of use. Everyone's different.Your dose is fairly low, but you have been taking them for quite a long time. A pretty general time frame is 3-7 days for acute wds. Usually after a week, the worst of the physical stuff is behind you, and you begin to focus on the mental/emotional aspect of healing. Is your doctor involved in this? It's always a good idea to involve your doctor just to ensure you are in good enough health to detox on your own. They may also be able to either set up a taper plan or prescribe meds that may help you. Just try to stay away from anything that could potentially be addictive. No sense in trading one addiction/dependence for another. Stick around this site. It can be a great tool is your detox and beyond. Let us know what symptoms you are having and we can suggest different things that helped us. Please consider letting your family in on your secret. You will need all of the support that you can get. It also helps to have people to be accountable to. Otherwise we end up using behind our secrets. I wish you the best of luck! Please keep us updated on how things are going for you. We are here for you and you can do this!!

Honestly, 3-4 a day is not that much...I was taking about triple that! YIKES!! As long as you don't have any health issues I would suggest going cold turkey. If you taper you'll still feel withdrawals so you might as well get the clean time rolling and quit now! Stock up on the vitamins/supplements in the Thomas Recipe, get some epsom salt (lots of hot baths), Ensure / Gatorade, bananas, and saltine crackers. Those were my life savers in the beginning. For me, the first 48 hrs were the worst and it got a little easier each day after that. Remember to have patience and will power. You have to remember how much you WANT to do this because your mind will try to talk you into using so you can "feel better." Stay strong and stay on this forum. We're cheering you on and you couldn't be in a better place for support. Let us know when you plan on quitting so we can get the pom poms out :)!

Hey there & Welcome. Thanks for posting & Congratulations on your decision to come off of Hydrocodone.

Could you tell us your age & the dosage you were taking? It sounds like you were on a relatively low dose but for a long time. You CAN absolutely do this! The key to a successful detox is good planning, a good attitude & true determination. If you type 'Thomas Recipe' into the search box you'll find a wealth of helpful info to help your kick.

The only thing I'd add to what my friend, ariley13 said above is that it's really helpful to 'come out' about our addiction to people around us. It gives us more of a chance of making it stick as we have more than just ourselves to answer to when things get difficult or the cravings come whispering. Would it be possible to start by choosing just one non-judgmental family/friend & telling them? Many people are afraid to do so but when they do they usually find that the thing that upset those near & dear to them wasn't the addiction but the fact that we didn't come to them sooner! It would be such a relief & would provide you with some much-needed support in your actual environment. (MH is great but it's important to have both.)

Let us know what you think. We're here!
