Suboxen or methadone?

About to get on Suboxen again. I'm considering methadone though i heard it works better? Does any one have some opinions? I have taken plenty of suboxen, but i felt that i still craved pills when i was on them. Going from 120mlg+++ every day to just taking 2 subs wasn't really doing the trick.

One on one and group CBT therapy has helped me the most. It may not be for you, but I find it very practical and matter of fact.

weaver71 thank you so much. I know what you mean, its hard to not want to get really high all the time because that what i'm used to. That was one of my problems with suboxen before i think was it didn't make me feel anything. Just not sick. I wish i could get suboxen during the week and methadone on the weekends lol but i know it does not work like that. I have heard the withdraws are really horrible and i definitely don't want to set my self up for that. Another thing that is going to help me with my decision is location. There are very few suboxen doctors in the area i just moved to and i don't know if there are any for methadone. I would have to drive.

Keith600, I will probably do some counseling. I have done the impatient 28 day rehab thing to many times and it never did a damn thing for me. I have also tried narcotics anonymous meeting and they just seem a little "cheesy " to me. I know they have helped a lot of people, but that also has not really worked for me. I think i would do better with a one on one environment.

Amandag78 thank you so much.

The thing about methadone, it gets you more high. Subs have the benefit of taking away the physical withdrawal, but did little for my mental addiction. I think with good counseling and a good doctor, subs are by far the better way to go. I was on 200mgs+ of methadone and almost died a few times. 8mgs of subs held me over just fine. I wonder if the craving is not chemical or physical, but mental. I would guess that the cravings will fade as you work a program, not disappear, but be less often and intense. Wanting that buzz or rush gets ingrained in us, subs don't really do that, so I had to find other ways to feel good about myself and have fun again. Let us know what you decide, but those of us who detoxed methadone all agree, it's one of the hardest drugs to ever kick.

Thank you everybody for your opinions. It seems to me that everyone prefers suboxen. I think Amanda is right, my dose must have not been high enough if i was still having cravings. I know lots of people who have done really well with suboxen and are still clean. I am just ready to live a normal life and not base my every move around getting drugs. I am in school now and trying to move on with my life. I have tried quitting "cold turkey" a few times, and although i got through the withdraws, i was back to the same old same old a few days later. As long as i get the proper dose of suboxen and do not abuse or start selling it again, I think this could be the final try for me.

Same, I got off heroin with subutex. Methadone is much harder to come off and it's withdrawal compared to subutex/suboxone are much more intense. I know a heap of people who are on methadone for life because they cannot get off it. Just my opinion. If your still having cravings on subs, it means your dose is not correct. That's what my doc said anyway. Subs are not only designed to get off illegal drugs, but they are also soposed to completely take away any craving for any drug. In my opinion if you ever want to get clean, don't do methadone, it has a completely different effect on you compared to subs.  Lots of people have used methadone with success, I just don't personally know anyone who has. But you will do what you think will get you clean IM sure. Maybe methadone will work for you, maybe not. But best of luck to you, it is a hard decision to make when we are talking about taking our life back. We all just prey we make the right one the first time.
