Percocet and Pregnancy

I have chronic pain and fibromyalgia and have seen a number of different specialists and tried lyrica, cymbalta and lots of different medications before my pain management doctor put me on Percocet. It is the only thing that helps me function everyday. I am now pregnant.  My pain management doctor refused to continue to prescribe it to me even though I have been on it for almost 2 years now. She told me to take tylenol which doesn't come close to helping with the pain. I asked my OB-GYN and they told me it was ok as long as I tapered off a few weeks before the baby came.  I am concerned about the baby going through withdraw inside of me if I stop taking it but also don't want her to be born addicted to the medication either. I take 2-3 percocets strength 7.5/325  a day. I have had numerous ultrasounds and tests done and baby is fine, no birth defects at all, they said my main concern is addiction and withdrawal symptoms.  Does anyone have any advice or personal experiences with this.  I am not abusing the drug, I am taking it as prescribed by my doctor for a legitimate chronic illness and am scared to stop because of my pain but more importantly becuase of the baby.

I understand your pain, but if I were you, I would not take any narcotics while pregnant!  You can stay off of them just for the few months you are carrying a child.  Your child will be in much better health if no drugs are in his/her system!!!  Good Luck to you and your baby.

My daughter in law was on vicodin the entire time she was pregnant with my grandson. the ob gyn said it was ok to take as prescribed. now back when I had my children, many many moons ago we werent allow a tylnol more or less narcotics. but I would say if you ob gyn is saying it is ok, then he should prescribe them to you and inform you pain mangement doc.  good luck and keep up posted
