Pre Med Student asking for hel[

Hello my name is Avery. I was in a really bad car accident back in July of 2010 and had a comound fracture of my clavical and fibia, and tibia. I was sent home with percocet, Lortab, Ocys, and a few other painkillers. I finally got off of everything but the lortab 10's -500's I started off on only 6 a day and got myself up to 12-15 a day and it wasint to just get rid of the pain I think depression took over, I cant drive, I cant work, and I had to drop out of pre med schol for over a year due to all the pain and doc appointemnts and PT I had to go thorugh and still am! I know what everyone is going though when it comes to the lortab 10 addiction! I am now in that same situation, I was just taking them for pain at first and then I went into a state of depression from just sitting at home everyday in pain. Soon it led to me taking them not just for pain but for a buzz to for me to forget about all the mental pain and dissipoint ment I was going though! I am not up to taking 10-12 a day and sometime even more. This is my first 24 hrs only taking one every 6 hours rather than 4-6 in that time period! I am having the chills BIG time and feeling sick and on top of it all I cant eat I cant even think about food! And im in pre med school Im suppose to be going off to med school in a year how do I explain this to my doctors that are suppose to give me a recomondation? But I learned that I have to Lortab's have NEVER killed anyone when it comes to withdrawls so I hope you ya'll know this, there really not that strong when it comes to other narcotics! They will make you feel like **** but you can get through it! But I would def, seek professional help this can be serious if you have a heart condition! Due to it dropping blood presure or sometime even spiking it! I would love to talk to someone about this or a few people if you want to you can email me or post I will check in daily. I know what your all going through and this *****! I know this, and we can all work together if we try! I hope and wish you all the best of luck and hope to hear from some of you soon. Steve soon to be MD in orthopeaic surgery.

Also, just an afterthought,  July of 2010 was only 6 months ago. And with school generally starting in September, you haven't missed "over a year of school". ;) so I think you ll be fine. Focus on getting off these meds and getting accepted into an accredited Med school before already thinking of specializing in orthopedic surgery.  Been around the block myself.;)  Good luck to you.

You have already accomplished a great deal believe it or not. You were able to eliminate the harder meds that you were taking and got down to the lortabs. You are absolutely right about using the pills for your emotional pain as well as your physical pain. "Depression Hurts" and plays horrible tricks on your body that is already going through trauma.  The good news is that "Everything Happens 4 a Reason"! After you kick the lortabs, and you will, you will have had first hand knowledge and experience to treat your patients when you are an orthopedic surgeon.  I'm a bit confused how your personal medical history is a prerequisit to your education. You were legitimately injured, you took what was given to you and soon you will be off. It just took you a little longer to heal than originally anticipated. Not a crime and as far as I'm aware can not be held against you. You have acknowledged your situation and are now dealing with it! You are to be commended.  It's a horrible experience for anyone to be hurt and then stuck in a depression but it definately goes hand in hand. Your positive attitude and willingness to admit that it is a problem already puts you ahead in this game! Good Luck and keep on posting.     U Can Do It  :-)     I'm currently climbing out of my hell now, it's not easy and I'm not going to even fool myself into thinking so. It takes alot of inner and outer strength and the people in this forum are a true Godsend!

Have you taken the MCATs yet? What year undergrad are you? Are you out of meds or deciding to taper at your own accord?

So you are tapering down right?  How is your pain from the accident now?  Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids.  If you cant eat i would try some Ensure.  Popsicles are good too.  Hot baths or showers help with the aches.......Do you take any vitamins?

HI ....sorry to here about your situation its rally hard when someone with chronic pain turns into an addict it makes treating the pain so much more difficult its good you want to come off them but your going about it way to fast you need to taper off slowly or your going to feel like you do now it is possible to taper off this med get down as low as you can stand it then just jump ship only you will know when it time,....most addicts find it hard to taper off this stuff it would be best if you had someone else hold the meds for you and dole them out according to the taper plan
if all else fails you can just jump off C/T and be sick for around 4 or 5 days and be free from them....keep posting to let us know what you want to do good luck and God bless....Gnarly
