How do u reteach ur body and mind to do everyday task after years of use?

I'm having some problems being clean. Today is 24 days since I've been clean. I was using for 5 years !! The first 2 weeks of me being clean were amazing I was excited about being clean finally!!!! Now on week 3 and 4 I feel as if I hit a Plato. I'm startng to learn that getting clean and staying clean r completly two different thing. Staying clean is alot harder. But the thing is, is I'm doing it... But it's hard! Now a days I'm just really struglling to try and reteach my body and mind to do simple task!! It's alot of work! I relied on doing pills, then it was methadone and finally suboxone to do everything. If I took a shower I had to be high doing it! Going to work and waiting tables I had to be high doing that!! Everything I used to do I had to rely on the drugs to get me by!!! So now I'm doing all of that without the drugs and man what trip!! It's crazy hard. Hopefully it'll get easier with time and alot of meetings with my addiction counselor!!!!  But I was just wondering how everyone else reteach theirselves on how to do stuff without the drugs?

it's 52 days clean for me after many many years of use, and i'm finding that i've been so much more able to get ordinary things done - like cleaning out old s**t out of cupboards that expired in 2005, etc... it's slow going, but am getting things done now that i totally obliterated for years - seeing dirt that i didn't see before, etc., etc., the list goes on and on

you're doing great... keep on hangin in there,
kathy

After the "pink cloud" leaves then reality sets in and what you are feeling now is normal.  It does take time.  As addicts we are used to that instant gratification.  Recovery is a slow process and it takes time for our minds and bodies to get used to our new lifestyle.  Focus on the positive things taking place in your life now.  You are doing great!!!      sara

ok, i gonna confess something.... this is a somewhat weird opinion of me. I had to have a pill to breathe too ...that's right so for the first months i realised now that i used those vitamins and aminos pills the same way ... i kind of substitute them for the vitamins and aminos and relied on them. I think this act of taking them not only helped me to feel my body better but also they helped me with the mental act of gripping some pills to my mouth..... this time it was healthier but nonetheless, it was somewhat "addictive behaviour" how i relied on those aminos and vitamin pills.

after some months taking those vitamins and aminos pills, i just stopped taking them with no problem at all ....but  i take them once in a while ... vitamin c in winter, the B's or ltyrosine  but i try not to be on any kind of pills on a daily basis now.

ang.... those problems you are having now are completely normal. Another reason for leading a very healthy life.... exercise, healthy diet and rest are a great help here for you....as well as adressing the addictive behaviour with your counselor.... you'll see that with time  those suggestions really work :)

I'm so with you on this!  I had to have a pill to BREATHE!  Usually several pills!  You can't really "teach" your body or brain.  You have to let them heal with some time and patience.  You can speed it some by exercising and vitamins and aminos.  Exercise helps motivation and energy almost immediately.  (I'm an instant gratification girl!!!)  It has made a big difference for me.

It just takes time and patience.  I doubt that you really want to hear that, but it's been my experience that that is the only thing that will really help!

Good luck!  And congrats on those 24 days!!!! Way to go....
