Quit Slowly

I have been taking 50mg of methadone a day for about 6 months. Want to wean myself off over a 5 week period. Would it reduce withdrawl symptoms if i started taking 50mg a day for one week then 40mg for one week then 20mg for week then 10mg then 5mg for last week? Could that get me to almost no Withdrawl or is that inevitable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you going to a clinic and taking this under a doctors care? I have not taken methadone I do however know a lot of people who have and can tell you that dropping that fast is going to out you into a hellish 5 weeks. You'd be better off going cold Turkey if your going to drop that fast. I would not drop more than 2mg a week if you don't want to experience major wd. Regardless of how slow u come off when you get below 20mg ur going to be in for a rough ride.and once u get to zero ull be in for 2 weeks of pretty bad wds.  I would speak with your doc and come up with a taper plan. Are u taken pill form or liquid? U may want to start taking split doses and taking half in am and half at night as u start to drop. The fact that you have only taken it for 6 months will help u a bit but it was long enough for a significant amt of Meth to build up in your system. Good luck and I'm sure many people on here can better help you such as gnarly he knows alot about Meth.take care

as with anything else you can have withdrawal symptoms. Make sure you have a strong support system in place, whether it be chatting with me through messages when you are down or your family and friends. I wish you the best of luck! God bless!
