A new reason to quit

A 19 year old college died of acetominophin (sp?) overdose yesterday in Oklahoma.  She took 10 Tylenols a day for 2 weeks for a tooth problem...she was waiting to see the dentist during this time.

Her liver shut down and died on the spot.  Can you believe this?  Most of us here have taken 10 times that amount every day for years and we are still here.  Are we pickled like the lead guitarist for the Rolling Stones?

it all depends on the strength of the tyl at 500mg each that is 5000mg 1000mg over the toxic level for 24 hours and if they were 650mg  even at 325mg that is still close to the 4gram max for tyl

I am just throwing this out there... I am no doctor but 10 tylonal is a very very small dose, just by chance have they ruled out poisen from the abcess? I do know that an abcessed tooth can cause a very very serious infection to enter into your blood stream and you can die from it? Just a thought. Although the bottle does say not to exceed 8 pills within a 24 hour period. I know most of us have consumed much much more than that in a 24 hour period... That is just amazing and hard to believe. Just does go to show that pills can kill...

that is so terrible......So young,...gosh that is scary...i still worry about my liver always...but i hope all the milk tristle i take is helping repair what i have damaged..

no Ibeprophen is not bad for your liver but it is just as toxic to your kedneys as tyl is for your liver so be carefull with that also..

Thats awful.  Does anyone know, Is Ibeprophen (?) as bad for your liver as tylenol/acetominophin?

I agree toxic, God must have another plan for us I dont understand ho I lived through this but glad I did.  I sure hate it about that young girl

It is definately a scary thing, this just proves how dangerous these drugs can be. Wow it just makes me wanna stop even more.

I think it is amazing that we don't see more of the liver damage due to abuse of pain killers.

We started out slowly.  Our livers began to get a tolerance.  I am sure we have some damage but believe me you body is amazing.  I am an EMT and was going to school to be a dr. I changed my mind when I was accepted to med school and became a teacher.  Now look at me, I maintain my job but I am an addict.
