Quitting cocaine and alcohol and hunger is out of control is this normal?

Ive finally decieded after 17yrs of  alcoholism and a 4 yr coke addiction to quit cold turkey. 20 days in and other than the craving here and there and trouble sleeping im doing surprisingly ok, but since like day 3   I have had a an almost uncontrollable hunger not just mentally like I feel it as if im staving nonstop. Not just certain foods either just whatever I feel like smashing down at the moment, Is this normal? , is it the booze or the coke withdrawl or both that made this happen ? and when will this go away ? And eating healthy doesnt seem to come close to making it go away its mostly huge meals followed by garbage junk food.

I agree w/ my pal Motye and I also want to add that after using/numbing for that long, your mind is in completely unfamiliar territory and is panicking. Overeating in that compulsive way you're describing could also be you're total fear and temporary intolerance of facing life on life's terms. With all it's boredom, monotony and anxiety.  That's why getting into aftercare asap is so important. Take away the drugs and alcohol and we are just addicts w/o our "medicine." The difficulty that drives us to find life completely intolerable w/o substances doesn't go away on it's own. Please go to meetings and/or some aftercare as soon as possible.

Keep talking w/ us.

I went thru the same thing! The last day I used I was weighing no more then 80lbs and I went up to 115lbs within a few weeks of being clean! Just try to eat healthy. Another weird thing I craved after getting clean was a lot of candy so I definitely had to control that.

Ive gained 15lbs since getting clean and YES i think this is normal. Your body gets hungry for a reason....it needs fuel.....just try to eat as healthy as you can.
