withdrawal and Esgic

I'm  about to withdraw from this after many years. No one has posted anything here since 2009 so, I hope someone is out there..I also have had those rebound headaches and am really afraid of the withdrawal.
They won't refill my prescription because of the acetaminophen that's in it...irony of irony..
I'm so scared that I won't be able to function..worried about how long it's going to take and how I can help myself get through this..
Any ideas?

Yes I totally agree with Vicki, you would think a pharmacy would know better and use a little good judgment.  I would get whomever you need to get involved so that you can get off this medication safely even if that means getting your doctor involved or whatever.  The doctor/pharmacy had no issue with helping you get to this spot and I think it is unconscionable they would refuse to refill it and make you cold turkey - crazy.

I wish folks knew what they were talking about before supporting an abrupt cessation of a drug.

Esgic contains butalbital, a barbiturate. It must be tapered. No question. Abrupt withdrawal can and will cause seizures!

Misst:  go back to the pharmacy and talk to them. That's crazy that they won't refill it because of the apap!  Just crazy. Talk to them. They know this can't be stopped abruptly!       You can also get the doctor involved...

I haven't heard of esgic, I looked it up and it looks like it is fiorcet - is that correct?  I do take that occasionally for headaches when needed but I haven't ever taken more than 1 at a time so I can't help you specifically on that.  How many do you take a day?

I can tell you I am day 36 off of 4 10/350 hydros per day and detox is no fun but it's the only way out if you want to stop.  I found this forum when I was searching for ways to soothe my withdrawal symptoms and it has been a godsend.  When I found this forum I just thought I'd detox off the pills and that would be that, I am so glad I found the support here and I realized this was more of an issue than I realized.

Let us know if what you are taking is like fiorcet and how much you were taking.

You are making a great choice!  There are plenty of us here to help you!  Could you tell us what you were taking and for how long?  It would really help us help you.  Are you doing this because you want to or because you have no choice?  Either way we are here to help!
