Oxy and Ultram?

I just read someone was getting off of vic and ultram.  My doc just gave me Ultram I take oxy now and am trying to start a tapper off plan.  Anyway I did not know ultram was also something you can get hooked on.  He told me to take 4 50mgs a day.  Also to take my oxy 5 times I take the 20'mgs.  I am going to start to tapper tom a.m.  I dont want to take the ultram if I can get hooked on it also.  Please help!!  I don't know weather to take it or not.  Thanks Debbie

DONT TAKE THE ULTRAM!!!!! It is VERY HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!!!! If you want to know about it, pm me.  I did the whole thing.....The detox was the most HORRIFIC thing I have ever experienced in my life.

It is highly addictive and the withdrawals are horrible!!  I'm in the process of TRYING to taper off of them now and it is the worse thing ever.  

If I were you, I would try something else.

I was taking only 3-4 50mg ultram per day for about 7 months for an arm injury. My Dr told me they were non-narcotic and non-addictive...as harmless as taking aspirin. I developed some symptoms when I missed a dosage or I dropped to just two per day...anxiety, headaches, etc. Obviously I wasn't abusing, but I no longer needed them for pain management.  When I stopped taking them about 40 days ago I went thru some wicked withdrawls for 5-6 days. Flu like symptoms, heebie-jeebie...creepy-crawly....could not sleep for days...restless body syndrome. Others on this site have similar stories w/ small amounts, and some actually got a sense of well-being from these pills and increased to even more and more to keep that feeling going and really had a struggle to get off of them.
Be VERY careful of ultram!

Hey. I have been off opiates for almost 3 yrs. And I can promise u that an ultram w/d is nothin compared to the oxy w/d. I used to take 3-4 80 mg of oxy a day. This could be why my oxy w/d were so intense. Hope this helps.

Then I wouldn't. I heard the same as Lisa, the wds are worse with Ultram. I would tell him you're tapering the oxy. Tell him you don't want to be dependent on opiates and he may be able to help you.

He just told me to take 1 four times a day he does not know i am going to start the tappering off the oxy.  He also gave me 3 refills on the ultram they are 50mgs.  But I don't want to start something else.

I have heard that the w.d from ultram is worst then oxy's. Be careful. Really careful...

You can definitely get addicted to Ultram. I would try to waether it. The tapering should help. How long does he want you to take the Ultram for?
