oxy advise

I've been taking 80 mg oxy contin  every day for about 4 months now, somedays 2 pills a day.....I've tried to stop and the feeling was overwelming and went right back to it.....Anybody have advise for cold-turkey stopping, anything to make you "feel" better durring the withdrawl?....I plan on going on a 3 week vacation, leaving next week, perhaps this change of envirorment might make it easier.....Perhaps smoking some pot or drinking some alcohol may ease the symptoms of withdrawl a bit.....I'm at my wits end for help on this.....

Hey Kenpa ---  Yes, it is tough to go through the W/D's --- all of us know it  -- especially when you start to really feel them --- the thing is -- They pass -- they really do.  Many have gone CT off of much higher doses than you are on --- If you don't think you can hole up for a few days to get through it then by all means -- taper -- Tapering is tough if you don't have someone to hold and dispense your pills -- most on here will tell you they could not do that - ---  they say  "If I got em - I take em"  so more power to you if you have the strength to taper.  Just try and believe in yourself --- when the w/d's hit just know that it will not kill you and will pass and you will finally be free. Hey, all the best.

Listen, if you can do it cold turkey, then absolutely do it. If you don't want to taper and have the will to do it cold turkey, DO IT. You won't die and you will only go through the normal w.d symptoms that Oxy Contin bestow. You can look up the thomas recipe. Its an at home detox of Over the counter meds to help with some of the symptoms. Not all, but some and it may not feel like its working, but it will, trust me. Look it up and buy the items on it before your trip. If you have off, then this is the perfect time to stop cold turkey. If you taper you are only dragging out the inevitable, unless you do a complete proper taper. WHich is reducing your dose by 10% every 3-4 days. A proper taper takes weeks to 2 months. It is were me, and having kicked an oxy habit of sometimes up to 1600mgs a day cold turkey, and I were headed on a 3 week vaca, I would do it cold turkey. Get yourself some Hylands Restless legs which can be bought at any GNC, this is for the creepy crawly feeling. Take warm baths and many of them. Eat plenty of bananas. If you can, bring heating blankets as they also help with RLS. Stock up on Melatonin, a natural sleep aid. All of this should be on the thomas Recipe. If you need any help, just ask...

i would not recommend going cold turkey...if you can do it on your own which is very hard and rare for most addicts, you need to devise a way of tapering your oxy down slowly, going cold turkey is asking for a nightmare two week long oone that gets worse and worse...believe me ive been thru  it a million times. i would possibly seek out professional detox to get the opiates out of your system and then after treatment with group, NA meetings along with one on one counseling. if you do go cold turkey take for short term benzo like valium or ativan, clonidine which helps a lot, anti diarhess, anti nausea meds
