Trying to stop the madness!

I'm on day two of my quest at regaining full control of my life. I have been taking 5 to 15 10 mg norcos daily for about 8 months. I was prescribed Vicodin about 7 years ago and continued taking them recreationally. I knew about the withdrawals so I never took them more than twice a week until last February. I need help with increasing my energy level and how long untill I feel normal. I have a 7 month old baby a 4 year old 11 year old and a strenuous 40 plus hour weekly job. I'm an ******* to my kids and everyone around me. I know 1 or 2 pills will have me rolling but I must stop before I loose my loved ones and self respect. Tapering won't work because I pay 3 or 4 dollars per pill and I'm broke because of my habit. I need some advice. Can't call in and kids surely don't take days off!!

Just wanted to pop in and say you are my hero working on day 2!  Since you work nights hopefully sleep will come easier for you than most.  A positive attitude helps so much along with lots of fluids.  I think since you are forced to stay busy with your job and the short time of using you will bounce back before you know it! Everyone is different, day 2 was always my worst.

hang in there, everything you did while on pills you will do BETTER after some time.  I think around day 4 I just accepted everything that came with detoxing, and it actually made it easier, well a little.  The most important thing to tell yourself is what you are going to feel during this first month is NOT what your new life will always be like.  Not at all.  It is a process.  I would just do what you can, ask for help when you need it if things start getting too much to handle, and know everything will get better in time.  Energy was a major concern for me in the beginning because even at 2 weeks, I still was having a hard time feeling motivated.  But eventually it all evened out.  You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself and your family, even if it doesn't feel like it right this moment.  Every minute you don't use you are that much closer to a much more comfortable and happier You.

Hey. You sound very, very busy. WD is going to be very hard, I won't lie. You should be able to function pretty well by the fifth day, but the first four will be tough. If you prepare yourself for a challenge along the lines of a newborn's first week at home, you'll won't be far off. It sounds like you've already handled that one a few times, so I bet you'll be able to handle the initial, physical, WD!

Do you have any plan for aftercare and support? Is anyone helping you with this? If money's an issue, I highly recommend you check out AA/NA, which are free. Life will be so much better without pills, you are on the right track!

Just wanted to add my support and second what Kkcopcetic said.   I had terrible lethargy too, and the way I beat it was making a list and making myself get up and work on my list at least fifteen minutes per item.   I told myself if I felt tired, I'd rest after that, but once I got the ball rolling, I got better much faster.

Hi there and welcome! You are on day 2 of what will probably be around a week of feeling like you have a bad flu! For me, days 3-5 were the worst of it, and then I started feeling better each day! Definately check out the Thomas Recipe for vitamins and supplements that you can take for some relief! Stay as active as possible, and with your kids that shouldn't be a problem! Drink tons of water or Gatorade, and take Immodium for any stomach and bathroom issues! Try to get outside in the fresh air and sunshine for short walks! That alone, helped me quite a bit!

Keep posting with any questions or if you need some support! Take care, and just take things one step at a time! You can do this!

Hi Hunted , Good start comeing here .
I was 9 + months on 100 mg a day Norco for pain . When the pain eased i could not stop needed the pills to do anything . I am sure you know the story yourself .
I am a bit older then you , 65 and when i tried to just quit cold turkey i went 3 days crying all day & wanted to die . Blood pressure went sky high , Just could not take it .Gave up.
Thank God , That day i found this site and with the help , support & advise of people who have gotten free of pills themself i now have my life starting back . 40 days ago i wanted to die .
Today Day#17 no pills feeling pretty good , likeing life & myself again .
You can do this , Yes it's TUFF and right now your mind will want drugs and panic your thinking .
Find some help at home if you can for about 7-10 days Max , Maybe the grand parents can take the while you get over the Flu .
The first 3-4 days are the worst then it gets a bit better day by day . I was going out with my wife again on date night by day 11 .
I found tapering down before jumping what i call DO ABLE not fun , not easy , but i could take it . Much better to W/D from 20mg or less Norco a day then 100mg it's just to hard on the body .
This site does not allow posting Taper plans but send me a message & i will tell you what i did to taper then jump  .
Also at the bottom of this page right side health pages read Thomas recipe before you start . His advise is self learned & work .

Good luck & get as strong as you can for yourself & kids , get your life back in a few tuff days it's yours again.... Ron

Just throwing this out- as far as energy went I found that the more I forced myself to do things, the more energy I had. Each task performed lessened         ( slightly ) the lethargy I felt.       kk

Hello and welcome.

I could never taper, I would use, plain and simple.  You have to go into this cutting all sources.  You will get weak, and you want to be unable to get any hydro.  Look for the Thomas reciepe in the lower right of the page, it is a huge help for detox.  As for after you detox, eating right, exercise, and a quality protein/amio acid supplement are key to getting our damaged brains healed as quickly as possible.  It will not happen quickly though, so you have to be prepared for  the long haul.  As the days click by, you will be don't something awesome for yourself and feeling better.  Keep posting, and good luck.

It has to be done at home.  I don't have the time to inpatient or $ to outpatient.
