Tramadol- codiene(tylenol3)

Hi. I take about 500 mg of tramadol per day. It looks like I am going to run out about 3 days before I can get my next refill. I have some Tylenol 3 with codiene left over from a root canal. If I take those when u run out of the tramadol will I be ok withdrawl wise? It's only for three days so I'm hoping I'll be ok.   I just remember the last time I took the codiene it made me really sleepy and sedated like. Did not like that feeling at all!! Anyone has any experience that they would like to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I have been on it for 6yrs now and every month i find myself needing more. As of right now im going throughy withdrawls as im writing this. And GOD is my witness and healer and i will come off this awfull drug.  Im aswell trying to reduce withdrawls and i did take a tylenol 3. Even thought it does alieviates the sweats, it does not help with fatigue. I hope tomorrow i can feel better. 2days on tram withdrayals. God help me.

Hi Tphelp,

Taking the codeine will help from going into withdrawal from the tramadol, but is that really what you want?  This is an addiction site for those who really want to stop using and not really look for a subtitute for another drug.  I have used Tramadol and codeine.  Neither is a good solution.  Stopping the use of tramadol vs. a full opiate like codeine is easier.  ask yourself is you want to continue using or if stopping is an option.  There are many on here that will help you with your decision, not matter what it is.  Consider what you are doing?  do you need to use pain killers, or are you past the point where you need them for pain and consider stopping?  If stopping is an option, we can help you down that path.  Give it some thought and keep posting.

You are only 37 years old and want to be on tram for the rest of your life?  I am just one year older than you and i can promise you this, you do not want to be on this drug.  I am a chronic pain suffer and ALL the docs told me that i will be on the meds my entire life, and before i was clean i LOVED to hear that, my docs were my drug dealers and they did not give a rip about me or the ramifacations  that come from opiates, all they cared about was there money.  You ran short this month, what about next month?  It will continue to happen and you and your body will want more and more.  I am just giving you my opinion, tram is awful, i came off that and every other opiate out there other than meth, and yes i have pain everyday and i hate it and i feel old, but i am drug free and feel that i am stronger mentally that i am able to overcome my pain with just OTC meds.  When i came here i was told all the BAD NEWS about tram and i listened because in the end everyday people like us know  better than the docs because after all we experienced it personally.  I wish you the best and please just consider what i am saying or at least keep it in the back of your mind.

Well, here's the problem with being on it for life.  You will require more and more.....just like this month only worse and more.  You will start to run out more often than not.  I know that right now you're saying that you don't take more than prescribed, usually, but if you stay on it long enough, you will.  I would talk to the doc about another med.  But...like I said, that's just me.  Those pills scare the crap out of me!

I remember you tp - I thought you were tapering off of the tramadol after getting off of other opiates?  Are you still trying to do that?

Hi,taking 500mg of tramadol is10 50mg a day.Is that why you are running short.I started tramadol for a back complaint 8 50mg per day.I thought what a magic pill not only do I have pain relief but feel good lots of energy. Before long all that would stop and I would take more and more to feel normal that is where the major problem begins. From my experience it is an highly addictive opiate like drug which is horrible because of its anti depressent property which makes it very difficult  withdrawing from and should be tapered.Codeine will if course help because it is also an addictive opiate.I am like the previous posters look into alternative medication don't go down the tramadol road.Take care

Thanks for responding so quickly. I am very aware of the dangers of this drug. The reason I take it is because I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. I'm 37 years old. Without them I would have no quality of life. I'm not to concerned with withdrawl because my doc told me I will prob be on them for life. I was just wondering about the codiene because I am going to run out of the tramadol this month for the first time a few days early and I do not want to experience any withdrawl symptoms. For me personally the benefit of this drug outweighs the risk. I usually do not take more than the prescribed amount(although I did this month).

Hi!  I guess my first question is do you really need the tramadol or are you taking it for another reason?  The reason I ask is that I detoxed from it and was taking about 15 a day at my highest, and it was no fun.  The tylenol 3 will help the WDs, because it's similar in opiate-type but there is a LIST of WDs that come with tramadol, so I don't know if you want to keep going through this every month??  Tramadol, in my opinion, is a horrible drug to be on and horrible to have to get off of!!!  It has an anti-depressant component in it, and it's just an all around baaaaaaaaaad drug.  I think it should be taken off the market......but that's just my opinion based on my experience with it and without it!  Anyway.......what do you take it for?  How long have you been on it?  Would you consider making this the last time that you take it and get on something a little safer if you need something for pain control?  I guess I just feel like it's my goal in life now to tell people about how dangerous this stuff is.  I would rather ingest arsenic than ever take another one.  I've put up with a LOT of pain to never have to take it again.  That's how bad I hate it!
