It would certainly make things easier if we all called something the same name! I never heard of your nitrazepam - but most of those benzo's are at least similar. It sounds like you have the plan to work - best of luck to you - keep posting
Hi there,
Clorazepate has been withdrawn from over here I found out, so thats a non-starter unfortunately.
To theeagle diazepamn(Valium). It is the Benzo with the longest half-life out of the lot of them so it is the best one to taper on. I have never used zanax, I was crossed over to valium to get off a drug called Nitrazepamn (Another Benzo with a very short half-life. It is an old drug used as a sleeper which I had been on for 12years or so)
Kim I will keep trying that number although I'm not sure whether the UK website and tel nos offer the same sort of support but I will check it out.
I can see why losthermarbles holds you in such high esteem Kim, she said that you were her rock during her hard times, now I can see why.
Once again, Thank you all for your support
God Bless
Regards
Eddy(D) the addict from the UK
i had NEVER heard of clorazepate either.....it's because it's not a drug of choice for addicts.....it doesn't give a "high" or a "low" or whatever....it actually has a longer half-life than valium and is MUCH MUCH less addictive....no one WISHES to abuse it because it doesn't do anything....except help your body withdraw from those other nasty benzos like ativan and xanax and even valium
don't know if you have clorazepate over there either, but check it out
DO keep ringing that number....
ALSO, you can call and/or e-mail James Harper, founder of the road back program.....they also have phone number and e-mail posted adn available to all....and they are extremely helpful
hang in there....keep asking questions....those of us who've had (too) much experience with these benzos will be right here to help....
blessings and prayers....
kim
the valium is a benzodiazepine - a very short acting one - I am not aware of which med you will use to get off the benzo's (I am thinking that you're using zanax?) - but you can do it. Do give yourself enough time on each reduction - and you should be comfortable enough to continue with your plan. Raising your dose back up is a bad idea. Ringing the tele number is a good idea - you can never know too much about the things - best to you
Hi there,
Yes I am doing this on my own, my doctor hasn't got a clue. My only other option is rehab where they detox you in 3 weeks and then give you 3 weeks after-care and then boot you out the door.
Have never heard of clorazepate, not sure whether we use it over here but I will check it out. I thought that they used valium to detox you off benzos because the half - life of them is the longest win Benzo group.
Have tried ringing the Tel No that is on Benzo.orgs web-site, they only open for a couple of hours per day over here, but will try again tomorrow.

Eddy(D)
Thanks to you all for your support, hope your doing ok theeagle and the same goes for you ladyboop
You know I don;t know a thing about benzo taper.. But I justed wanted to say i am pulling for you. It is my hope that things get better son. So that you may keep your next step down on time....
Keep the faith with your H/P....
lady
Congratulations. A slow taper is the only way to go with the benzo's. Your body should tell you when its okay to reduce again. You don't want to drop so rapidly that it doesnt work - thats no good. So let your body adjust to each dose change - stabilize and then reduce. sounds like you can do it - good luck to you
well, was originally NOT to cut dosage by more than 2 PERCENT every 2 weeks or so.....now that is a VERY slow taper....but slow tapering is the ONLY way to do it with the benzos....it just doesn't work any other way, it seems
are you doing this all by yourself, not with a doctor's help?? i found an awesome dr. and did it with his help and supervision....he weaned me off ativan using a much weaker med in that same class (called clorazepate).....i did not, i repeat, i did NOT feel any type of ativan withdrawal at all....he used a VERy small dosage of clorazepate....it tricks your body but you don't feel it....in fact, it really did nothing for me except make sure that my body didn't go into ativan withdrawal
is is possible for you to try something like that?? i KNOW how almost impossible it otherwise feels to try to wean off of a benzo just by cutting little by little, with no other help at all....
also, i've said it before but will say it again, google benzo.org and read all about the road back program and their products....they DO help as well....you basically take the Body Calm and Body Calm Supreme as much as every 2 hours all throughout the day, and then a larger amt at night....also, they have one new product, which, after research, has shown extremely promising results to help with the anxiety and insomnia that accompany going off of benzos
please don't give up....i tried to just go off ativan myself, with no other help from doctors or this program.....never could do it....know your frustration....but please check out other ways and don't give up....i want to help you more....
prayers and blessings,
kim
