clonadine for withdrawls

I was wondering, how does clonadine help with withdrawls? I have been taking percocet for 5 years now for RSD. started at 5/325 3x a day, and 5 years later am taking 6-8 10/325. I have been tapering fast, like 2 5/325 a day, and feel poopy, to put it kindly, but making myself function as best I can. My hubby is very caring and understanding about it. I know these pills help me with my pain, but I in the last month caught myself taking 8 a day instead of the prescribed 6 a day. so lo and behold, I am almost out with almost a week to go. I know in my head I can find them if I look bad enough, but a big part of me wants to quit. I want to see how bad I hurt with out them. I am tired of feeling numb. Anyway, will the clonidine help? and if so, what exactly does it help with? I don't want to expect to much from it.

I also would like to confirm that it does work..  I tried two or three times without my docs help.  He gave me some and now I have been two weeks clean no problems yet.  I take 1 or 2 (.1mg) in the day.  For the first couple days they made me drowsy.  But know I can take one while working with no drowsy effects.   Another few weeks I should be done with my script.

Best of Luck

I totally agree with wait2long....The first time i tried to detox, i only made it to day 3....The second time i had clonodine, and it made it so much better...BUT i could not have taken it and go to work.....It helped the RLS, sleeping, chills, sweats.....But also made me kind of have the noodle leg feelings, so i layed down alot...  I also had a blood pressure machine and took it very often to make sure it didnt' get to low...

it is the best thing for withdrawal symptoms...the benefits far outweigh ANY risk that may be involved...risks are pretty low statistically...i took .1 mg 3 times a day...
advice- the dr gave you the clonidine because it works...take it...you will be amazed...i didnt get drowsy from it...i tapered off in 3 days because after using it for 10 days, i could tell when i no longer needed it...it is an awesome med to help WD symptoms...
having spiked BP is much more dangerous...

Well this drug, which is mainly used as an antihypertensive, works in many ways.  It's unlabeled use in the management of opioid withdrawl it thought to work by preventing pain signal transmission to the CNS for one.  It also inhibits cardioacceleration and vasoconstriction.  It causes marked drowsiness.  It must be used carefully.  There are many adverse effects, and one of those is rebound hypertension.  It should gradually be discontinued over 2-4 days to prevent it.  I have never taken it, so hopefully there'll be someone who has come to help you.
