It depends on the amount of alcohol and the amount of time you have been drinking. Normally to 'come off,' it takes 7 days with benzodiazepines and the vitamins you are given in hospital. I'm 5 years clean from alcohol now. It was hard in the begging but I had help from my Dr. My doctor prescribed me Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) and a drug called campral. The camoral helps to take away the cravings for alcohol and it worked for me, but everyone is different and what worked for me may not work for everyone.

Hey!!! Congrats on getting out of rehab (did you stay the whole time or check yourself out?) and your clean time! Such an accomplishment. How is it going? How are you feeling. Come back and talk to us!!
Definitely want to taper. Never cold turkey a benzo. Some people take months to a year or more to taper. Not everyone necessarily needs to go that slowly, but definitely better to be safe and slower than to go to fast. For more info, google the Ashton manual.
Benzo withdrawal can start pretty fast. Like in a day. And depending the extent of how much you used and for how long, the length that it can last really will depend. Tell us more. This forum is anonymous so you can say whatever you want and we'll try to help. It 'can' last several months if the use was severe. Really really important to not suddenly stop though. It's best to taper. that means decreasing the dose slowly.
Tell me more, we'll go from there.
