No more norcos

I didn't take a norco yesterday and wound up with chills cold sweats flulike symptoms headache. Can't eat but drinking lots of water. I take Xanax for anxiety and it  helps but supply is limited. I took half a 7.5 norco when I realized it was WD. Been there once before . It was lot tab . Same symptoms only I thought my husband poisoned me and I didn't realize it was WD for a couple of weeks. Been in a couple of severe car accidents and in pain but don't want to be an addict . Dr just gave me a 90 day supply I haven't even opened the bag . I still have some left. Mood swings have been severe for months . Crying spells daily. . Norco and Xanax help. Now I realize it is the damn pills . Do I taper or cold turkey? How do I dispose of these meds? They are tempting. . Xanax I will stay on for now. Thanks

Hi there and welcome!  If you are taking 2 pills per day than I would think that cold turkey would be your best route unless you have some serious health issues.  I was taking 4-6/day and couldn't manage to taper cuz if I had them, I took them.  If you stock up on the items in the Thomas Recipe at the bottom of the page, I would think with your low dose it shouldn't be too awful.  You will feel like you have the flu...chills, stomach issues, restless legs at night.  he hot Epsom baths are a Godsend for the restless legs, they calm the body and brain and are great before bed.  Drink lots of fluids, take supplements.  After 3-4 days I would think the bulk of you physical will be done except maybe the lack of sleep.  In my opinion, it is just better to get it over with.  Tapering is great for those on high doses, but you still have some WD along the way as you taper...and again, at your low dose it may be a moot point.  Keep posting and asking questions.  Or, to let us know how you are...or just vent.  We will be here to support you.  Kudos for you for quitting before it gets any worse.  Also, you said you take Xanax.  I don't condone it, I am not a Dr, but I will say a 1/2 a Xanax at night helped me a bit with the restless legs and to get some sleep.  Best of luck to you.  Please feel free to pm me I you need anything. God Bless!

Thanks for the advice. I am not going cold turkey at this time , however I am afraid to face the dr . I guess I have to . Although I have them , I haven't been taking them everyday except for recent couple of months and not more than 15 mg or 2 pills per day . I was in the hospital with heart attack symptoms  , they gave me morphine in my. I v  . They ran tests and the diagnoses is stress . Then they sent me home . Before that I wasn't taking them everyday. Only 2 to 3 times a week as needed for severe pain . But I turned into a monster who yelled at everyone Then the stress attack . Then the everyday taking one or two . I felt entitled. . After all , I was having chest pain on top of back pain and a legal script. I haven't been taking too many because I have some left . Saw the dr a couple of weeks ago he have a new script without me asking for it.  .it is low level but still definitely WD. I will call my dr tomorrow and make an appt . He is just weird about addiction and may make me see someone else . Thanks for your help. Good luck on your recovery.

Checking it out. I had an anesthesia assisted detox in 06. I was addicted to Norco for 4 yrs. By the end I was taking 30-40 10mg hydros a day. I had finally had enough of "pill chasing". Worrying I was going to get caught Dr. shopping, using multiple pharmacies etc.
Stupidly I turned to a methadone clinic. Within 3 months the clinic had me on 120mg a day, I only weighed 105 lbs. Can you imagine....... I could barely keep my head up. Became severely depressed, couldn't eat.
Because of my poor health, all medical professionals I saw. Agreed rapid detox would be the safest choice. Physically I'm sure my detox was easier. Emotionally I'm not sure. You wake up still detoxing but clear. Everything hits you at once. All the shame and guilt of an addiction and the lies that come along with maintaining it.
Good luck..........Readytolive31 You're doing it!!!!!

Thomas recipe is a link on the bottom of the page that has vitamins and helpful info on what to do to help lessen your withdrawal.  It helped me a lot!

Speak with your Dr. before you make any decisions. Being honest with your Dr. is a must.  I've been a recovering opiate addict for 8 years. My drug of choice was Norco too. My addiction started legitimately. I had been in a severe motorcycle accident. That caused cervical and other musculoskeletal issues. Then I was diagnosed with endometriosis. My OB was a very understanding. I had not been completely honest with him, though. After the accident, I had become dependent on opiates. I was young enough a the time. That the Dr's had cut me off before, an addiction could take hold. If I had been more upfront with my OB. I'm sure, he would have been more conservative with his script pad. The rest is history.
My point being.......if I had been honest with my Dr. He could've possibly helped me avoid the whole mess. By the time I got clean. I was taking 30-40 10mg Hydrocodone a day. Seeing several Dr's and using internet "docs" to supply my habit. Breaking multiple laws everyday.
You know your body better than anyone. If you can make through, the rest of the day. I would call my Dr. First thing tomorrow morning. Be honest and upfront. Sounds like your Dr could possibly help you taper down. Without the agonizing withdrawals. If you're serious about going "cold turkey". You still need to let your Dr know. Withdrawal from opiates is dangerous. If you have any other medical problems. That could be exacerbated by the symptoms of withdrawal (high blood pressure, diabetes). Medical supervision is a necessity. Good luck!!

Hello and welcome! Glad to hear you are wanting to get sober. You are going to have a lot of different emotions and symptoms during withdrawals but physicals dont last that long, its the mental that will get to you. Its a personal preference on ct or taper..I had to ct cause I couldn't control a taper. I used the Thomas recipe, stayed as active as possible, and stay hydrated and im on day 8 for a second and final time. I have learned that when everyone says aftercare that they are correct and its needed.  Good luck to you :)
