addiction

Hello! I need help! I am addicted to pain killers and I want to stop! I have been reading a lot of posts about what people are doing to take themselves off of pain meds. I don't want to take off of work so I am looking for a supplement to take to help me with withdrawals. Should I ask my doctor for help? I have been taking pain meds for several years and this is the first time I am admitting to myself that I have a problem! I am ready to stop and live a healthy life style!

GA guy is right, the physical wd's are one thing but like you said, you've done the detoxes before but went back. I've been through that too and it *****. Get yourself detoxed again and get into aftercare right away. I do both NA and see a therapist. I like NA for the group support and looking forward to doing step work but there are some issues I like go talk to my therapist about one on one.
The  mind plays a lot of games in early recovery (which is where I'm at) and the addict in you will try and bullcrap you into all kinds of thinking to try and justify using like "just one.."aftercare can and will help you silence what I call my "commitee of idiots", those voices in my head that try and talk me back into active addiction and try and justify the most irrational thinking. You can do this bit you'd be wise to get lots of support.

I am going to set up an appointment with an addiction counselor. I am so scared and I hope I can get through this! I have been reading a lot of posts and see that most people get through the first week of withdrawals. I love taking pain pills and pray that I don't go down this road again.

The key to long term sobriety is aftercare. Fin an NA or AA meeting, an addiction counselor, therapist, or group therapy sessions.

Thank you!  I have been taking vicodin, norcos (325/1000), sometimes oxycodone. Sorry if  am not spelling them correctly. How long are withdrawals? I have done it before in the past but always went back to it! I want to stop for good! How do I fight the cravings down the road? It is so easy to fall back into the same habit.

Good first step.  Admitting you have a problem is a great start.  You can do it cold turkey if it is just opiates.  If you are taking any kind of benzo, then that has to be tapered.  It will be hard for a few days.  Go to the health pages.  Look at Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Protocol.  Also, drink Gatorade and use epsom salts in your bath for aches and sore muscles.  Advil, tylenol and immodium.

Post here for support and to get answers to questions when you are detoxing!  Good luck!
