Just an update and could use some advice

Hello,

I started sub 2 weeks ago and am taking 8 mgs a day. I am going to the doc tommorow and will ask him to drop me down a bit. I'm wanting to minimize my time on sub especially after reading the horror stories. This doc is of the opinion I should slowly wean off and brought up my pain issue as another reason to not rush off it.  I don't want to get roped into maintenance so even though he may have some valid points in keeping me on it longer I'm determined to get off faster then he'd like.

I know med advice is not allowed but if someone can tell me how they tapered I'd appreciate the feedback. No oxy for 2 wks and glad I'm not chasing pills and killing myself anymore. I also started going to meetings and the general advice has been to get off asap.

Please give me some advice..

I am sorry your doctor isnt helping you with this.  Is there any way you could find a different one?  You dont need to be feeling all this frustration.          sara

Just came from the doctors and as usual he's trying to get me to stay at 8 mgs. If it helps your pain and your no longer abusing oxy what's the rush to get off? He says. I told him I want to FEEL again. I've been in a numbed out opiate fog too long and while I def feel more then I did doing 200 mgs of oxy a day up my nose, I want off drugs period. He's baffled because most addicts want more of it. He can't grasp that I just wanna be done. It's all about the money with these guys. The longer they can keep you the more dough they make. Well screw him, I'll drop my dose myself if he keeps dragging this out. I wont be roped into maintenence.
And if I hear him tell me one more time that sub isn't hard to come off of because it's not a full agonist blah blah blah I'm gonna strangle him. I felt like pointing him to this page and let him read first hand from the people who have been to hell and back trying to get off it how "easy" it is. Maybe I will...

My doc was oxy and yes, 200 mgs a day at the end. And I railed them. Even at 8 I still crave (though I dare not tell my doc, he'd rush to up my dose!)

My goal is to be opiate free but I'm stuck on the fact that if I go down too fast I might be setting myself up for a fall but if I stay on too long I risk really bad wds from sub. I might try a 2 mg drop every other week. Yeah it's not going to be done in 21 days but still won't be too long. Not sure what to do.

Well I'll tell him I want to go down to 6 and try to drop weekly and if that's too much I'll do it bi weekly. Just wanna be done with opiates/opiods. Wish so bad I never messed with them to begin with. I guess we all wish we didn't.

21 days is the "rule" for getting off sub without a sub addiction
U r close to that and u r at 8 mgs
did u shoot heroin? or have a 200 mg plus pill habit?  if not u did not need that much sub

But this is where u r...i dont know ur prior DOC nor dose or time of use....u most probably r on too much sub tho cos as a rule drs do give folks too much

it is a super powered narcotic...2 mgs of sub will hold a 100 mg hydro habit with a boost to boot...

U need to examine ur goals..if u did this in fear of ur DOC wds...then u r in for much worse if u continue on sub...long half life and long wds..

what is ur goal?

Hi there. I also used suboxone to detox off of methadone. I was only on it for 2 weeks but spent a total of 3 weeks in a detox facility. I think the maximum suboxone dose i took was only 12mgs and i reduced every day until i was down to nought. It worked well for me and i have managed to remain substance free for a little over 3 years now.

My wife did a subutex detox in South Africa. Before emigrating here to NZ she unfortunately relapsed but restabilised on subutex which she was able to contiue and eventually wean herself off here. She too has been clean for well over 3 years. I believe her last subutex taper took 2 months and her dose peaked at 8mgs.

There is a couple vague examples of a short term suboxone/subutex taper. Hope this helps.

All the best. Kind Regards Jeremy.

I can tell u my story... I was on sub to get off the methadone. I was on 12 mgs and I dropped 2 mgs every other week. I was off of it n 3 months. I stayed on it long enough to make sure the methadone was out of my system. It works really good. They key is to not b on a high dose and not to stay on it for a long time. It sounds like that's what ur gonna do.  Good luck to ya.... <3 Angie
