what is it about crack that causes people to hurt people who care about them.  why would someone choose crack over someone who really loves and cares about them.  What's so great about that drug?

I don't get it either, but from what I have read from many posts, everything from those that have replied to your question is true.

It is that powerful.  The user apparently is always in a constant battle between crack and loved ones (life, children, etc.), even if the love that one has is also powerful.  Its frustrating for the loved one.

Please keep reading these posts for more information and knowledge.  It will help, but it won't bring you peace.  The knowledge gained, however, will guide you and your actions, so that you will know that you, at least, made the right decisions.

I understand what you're all talking about.  Addiction.  Well I use to use crack and when I saw that it would cause me to damage my relationship with God and lose my loved ones I left it alone.  That's because I genuinely LOVED them.  I have been clean for over 8 years now.  Going back is not even an option.  Why can't other people love others and God enough to let go of something that will cause you to lose everything?  Why?  I just don't get it.

like they said above there is nothing great about this drug, but when someone starts using at first you get this incredible high and euphoria. soon after all you do is chase that high, hit after hit after hit. next thing you know it's 3 days later and your broke and scared to come down. sometimes with crack once is enough to get ya. the mental addiction of crack is very powerful

I have had my encounters with coke. I hate the rocks - I have seen their destruction. I feel that the answer to your question is that people smoke an altered substance when they do crack. The natives in South America chewed leaves for centuries and had no problem. The white man shows up and extracts a single alkaloid out of many from the plant and we soon have a coke problem. To make the rocks another alteration is made to that one alkaloid - you add baking powder and apply heat to isolate the base that you want. Then when that product is smoked it hits your bloodstream as rapidly as an IV injection. The immediate rush and high are impossible to describe. Then the individual wants that rush and high again. Problematically, you never get that high again....but you keep trying because the drug has such a strong hold on you. The answer to that problem is to break the cycle - it isnt easy and it can take awhile - but it can be done.

ditto to there is NOTHING SO GREAT ABOUT THIS DRUG,...in fact it is a horrible drug that robs all kinds of people of all ages and all backrounds (it does not discriminate) of their happiness.their money,their possesions..sometimes even their homes, their health, their families and loved ones and their dignity. I assure you that someone who seems to be chosing this drug over someone who cares about them...DOES NOT WANT TO DO THAT!! They cannot help themselves and are horribly addicted to this evil drug. It kills them inside because they ARE aware of hurting the people who love and care about them but are not capable at that point to help themselves and say no to that devil drug. They want to with all of their being and know how they are hurting their loved ones but believe me they are hurting even more inside and probably despise themselves so try not to be too hard on this person if you can.    and yes i speak from experience unfortunatly

There is nothing great about this drug. Someone would choose crack or any drug over loved ones because they have an addiction which is an illness.
