Opiate Withdrawling - nervous

I guess I'm here for the support of it. It was helpful reading all the posts on my subject! A little about me - I have been taking Opiates for pain for over 5 years when I started working for a doctor that is big on writing that kind of stuff. Ive been taking 6 - 30mg Roxys a day for years and still have daily pain. Now all these years later, I am READY to be done so I went to an addiction specialist a few days ago. He was going to put me on months of Suboxone treatment but I requested a quick detox instead - so I will be doing a Suboxone taper for 7 days. Has anyone done this? Even the nurses in his office looked at me like I was crazy and replied "we've never done this before". Also, I'm a nurse and the doctor told me he's only had 2 people that Suboxone hasn't worked for and they were both nurses...WHAT!! That makes me a bit nervous! Looking for any support as I took my last opiate dose 6.5 hrs ago.

I think you'll be ok.  If you are truly determined, you'll be able to do this no matter what route you go, right?  A LOT of nurses get through this!  Yes, you have a lot of drug access, but as addicts.....we will find drugs whether we work for a doc who gives them out like candy or not!  What you have to do is use all the determination you have had to use drugs and turn it into a determination to quit!  Many of us also start using the meds for pain and end up just being prescription junkies.  We are so messed up that we don't even know what our true pain level even is anymore, because we haven't been a day without drugs for so many years.  Your pain may or may not be as bad as you think.  It may be a little worse for a while....it's the rebound pain from stopping the pain meds.  But give it a few weeks and see how it is.  I bet you see that you can tough it out without narcotics!  I do it every single day of the world.  A lot of us here do and we thought for a long time that we had "pain pill pain" when in reality it was controllable with much less.  You'll be surprised what some advil and a heating pad will do.  It may not STOP the pain, but maybe just taking the edge off will be all you need! :)

Good luck to you!  You've come to the right place.  I have no doubt that I wouldn't be where I am today without my friends here.  I got a lot of support and still do, and you will too! Ohhhhhh....and YES on the addiction specialist!  That is going to be great for you.  Everyone needs some form of aftercare, and you have already found one.  Way to go!

I got off oxycodone myself bout not quite as high a dose as you. You have alot going for you. A specialist to help. A strong desire (I read this in all your words)
I did cold turkey but others knowledgeable about your method will post soon. Just wanted to offer my support and encouragement. Way to go!!
I am 60 days clean and it is really worth it! My life is so much better and I am a pain patient too with severe back issues. I have found successful alternate ways to deal with pain-which has lessoned because the opiate induced pain has gotten much less.
