detoxing off methadone

I was on 80 mg. for about a year and then tapered to 35mg. for the last month or so. I then found out my health insurance was being cut off and gas going up over $4.15 I decided to detox. I used partial doses for about a week and a half and have now been completely clean for 5 days. My question is how long does the various side effects last? Heroin withdrawal never took more than 5 days or so but everyone says methadone takes months? Is this true? The feeling is different, not as accute or violent as heroin, but months?

I never got leg spasms from methadone detox. I had goose flesh and it lasted for about a month.

Thanks for the posts, but my question is really how long do the leg spasms last? How long does the crawling skin last? Etc.>

I tapered  down from 80 mg and didn't go into withdrawals 'til the 6th dfay and then it fell on me like a ton of bricks. I don't know why this was as most people seem to go into w/d sooner than I did. My last dose was May 15th and I'm still having a tough time but I have hep. C. Maybe that has something to do with it. You have done very well and are almost out of the wood. The way you detoxed is good and it may last a wile longer than dope withdrawl but it will be much milder. I wish more would do as you did.
