Chronic pain, pregnant, and painkillers

Hi there,

I have been taking tramadol for about 2 years now and have recently found out I am pregnant.  My doctors have switched me from the tramadol(ultram) to percocet, about 60 mgs a day, sometimes more.  I have stage four endometriosis, with four surguries under my belt,  IC- Interstital cystitis, a chronic, painful bladder condition, and a crazy left ovary that likes to attach itself to my colon.....I have been on some type of pain med since I was 17, it all started with a bad case of kidney stones, and then the endo, and then the IC.  Anyways, I am a little over three months pregnant and worried to death about the effects of the percocet on the baby.  I am under my doctors supervision and they are prescribed BUT I am suppose to be TRYING to wean myself.  Lowering my dose makes me so miserable I dont know what to do.  These pain meds have saved my my quality of life and I am miserable without them BUT I am also horrified at what it might to do to the baby....Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? Was your baby ok? Please, any information would be a great help.....Thank you in advance!

I would follow your script to a T and if your Dr. is fine w/ it and you need it for chronic pain I would relax and trust the Dr. Lowering your dose is hard but it is doable it is alot better than just running out!  I am pg too and taper off the tramadol.  It is not too bad I feel good about taking less I felt incredibly guilty if I took more so I decided it wasn't worth feeling bad about myself and to just taper off it and look at the w/d as having the flu.  I am slooowly tapering tho.  Sounds like you need to stay on some type of pain control Search through the health pages there is somr good info there.  Good luck and congrats:)

when i was pregnant with my son they gave me percs for my back from 3 months on, everything was ok with me and the baby, but everybody is diffrent, i had to be on them for my back cause the wheight of my belly was hurting my back too much and i could of gone into shock from it,i never heard of something like that so it seemed wierd to me, but i did what i was told cause i knew that i could die from shock and i didnt want to hurt the baby, so i was stuck between a rock and a hard place, but everything turned out just fine, but like i said everyone is diffrent. if you are worried do like i did speek with your doctor about it tell him your concern, hope all goes well, and congrats on the buddle of joy.

I also had endo and just had a hysto a week ago, I was on Trams and Vicodin while pregnant because the pain was unreal and the docs said the pain was worse on the baby than anything. I would follow what they say, Take them just like it says no more no matter what. And try your best to take even less if you can. If the docs know and are giving them to you try to trust them and do alot of praying .
