First NA meeting

I went to my first meeting last night. I was afraid I wasn't going to go due to fear but I did it. I just want to say for all the newcomers to this site, don't be afraid like I was, go to a meeting as soon as you can. It was the best feeling ever. Yea I was scared the whole time but everyone was so supportive. I broke down in the middle of it and still stayed to the end. I also only thought there were only two a week. I found out yesterday there are 6 a week. I will be going to every single one I can make.

There really is hope for us all. We just have to do the work we need to get there.

Ronda- that is such great news. You are doing "contrary action": feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Many on here in the past have just stayed in their fear, and nothing changed. You are DOING it...things will slowly start to change for you...yay!

Fantastic to hear!
Fear drives alot of us (I know it does me) and I'm so glad to hear that your stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something different.  Most areas are well versed in N/A and I must say, I love my local group!  I've met some of the best people, made some good friends ( people I would honestly call friends) and found great peace knowing that mine is not the only COMPLETELY INSANE brain in the bunch!!!!!
Keep going!

Thank you for saying that!! I'm very private also... So it good to hear that it is hard for other's but you did it And were happy you did. Honestly ... I'm afraid of triggers when I leave. Even at meetings... Idk... Maybe I'm just feeding the fear. I need to let go and do what feels right. And a meeting ... Is sounding like a great aftercare step for me.

To everyone afraid to go:

I also made my house my safe place. I didn't wanna leave didn't want to go anywhere. Didn't want to meet new people or really admit I was an addict. I'm with you I know how you feel. Guess what though? Every single person at that meeting knows how you feel too, they were there before. I in general am a very private person and don't like meeting new people. They almost force you to feel comfortable lol. They could all see how scared I was and welcomed me with open arms.

Your not forced to do anything. Just go and keep going. It all seem so strange if you haven't went before. I honestly didn't think I was going to get out of my car and go in. I'm so happy I did. I know you'll be happy too. It's such a relief. I can't even describe the relief. You will know it when you go though.

That's so awesome!!! Good for you And congrats. I told my husband this morning that I want to find a open AA meeting in the next few days. I'm scared.... And worried about leaving the house. Lol. I have made it my safe place. But know that I need to face this head on. I cant hide forever.

Ronda that is awesome!! I am so afraid to go to my first meeting and this makes me want to go now. Good for you for getting in there despite your nerves! I'm visiting my family on the mainland right now but next week I go home to Hawaii and it's my first priority to find meetings. Keep going and keep looking to your future!

Hi Ronda  a big CUDOS!!!! to you....the N/A program is the single best thing for a addict  it will give you some place to share what is going on with you where the people understand...you wont get that ''deer in a headlight stare'' like you do from ''normies''  its not that they dont want to understand...they cant...they just dont get it and thats ok  one addict helping another is without parallel ...with time you will get to know the other members ...I have developed some great friendships and they do care about my well being....start out with baby steps going to your first meeting is huge  in time you can work the 12 steps but lets not get ahead of ourself yet  when your comfortable you can start to share...that is another huge step for most of us but it is like this GIANT WEIGHT gets lifted off you when you do all I can say is welcome home....your off to a great start for your recovery with this in place you will succeed .....Gnarly
