intervention

I am fairly certain that my daughter is using oxycontin, maybe other stuff.  I will have her back home next week.  This is the plan we and other of the extended family are considering & I'd like your feed back.  Have the family members get together with her for an intervention - (cept all I know is what they do on TV), i.e. basically telling her with our arms around her that we all KNOW but only after we have in place a place for her to go for rehab, if she chooses.  I would go as far as telling her that if she  doesn't make a choice or if she decides to run, I will call CPS.  She will not drag her baby around if she is doing drugs.  Then I would care for him while she went thru withdrawals.
So...my point, my question is who has done an intervention?  Would you recommend a professional be present?

What have you done so far ? You may not need to have an intervention . As new said I would tread very careful with calling cps.How did you find out about her use and why do you think she is using oxy?

I mostly agree with G on this one. A pro would be not only helpful, but impartial. during an intervention, emotions will be goin eva which way. an impartial pro will be able to deflect not only your daughters anger, but your hurt as well. She will prolly be mad , this is normal, we as addicts hate to be called on our problem. if ya cant afford or find a pro , you could use a family friend that has no partiallity to the problem.
I think you could benefit from some al-anon meetings, they will help you understand your daughters problem, and you will learn ways to cope and deal with it. Im not sure if your ready for an intervention until you understand the depth of her addiction, and that addiction is a real disease, not just a term we use to justifie using. You can look up al-anon in your area, or talk to your church if you have one.
I do agree with the ultimatum tho, if she wont recognize her problem and at least start to deal with it, you are gonna have to use the CPS threat. Like I said earlier, the baby is the only true innocent in this, and must be protected. Before you use that threat, talk to someone at CPS and feel em out. make sure they would put the baby into your custody, and not flip him into the system. It would be terrible if this went down, and the baby landed in foster care because of something you missed. so just check it out.
a non pro intervention is gonna take some planning, but I believe it can be done if you plan it ahead with alot of fore thought. best of luck, n let us know how it goes!!

Having a counsellor present at an intervention would be beneficial, but can be done without one.  I believe an intervention is the best time to create someones bottom and get her help whether it's threatning to call CPS on her or leave her without any options other than seeking treatment. Intervention usually take place when someone can't recognize they have a problem and i think it's wonderful your going to this length to get her some help. I am not sure the success rate of interventions, but i believe they are very beneficial, not just on tv, lol. Best of luck to you and let us know how it goes.
